    Re: Hubcap Availability

Hi Norm , i am back too!!! What a great life here in Ohio . We had a fellow here in Akron have someone CUT off his wheels at the column , then cut off the landing gear to get the wheels and brakes for a kind of Soap box derby thing ( a coaster) ..

          Re: Hubcap Availability

We are currently restoring an L-2M and are also in search of hubcaps. I have a source for formed parts and it sounds like they would consider making a run of these. I will need a good (decent) enough part for a sample though or a drawing. Let me know if you have a hubcap that you would like to sell.

We need the three hole style for our ship.

I don't know which style is more plentiful (one hole vs. three hole)

In the meantime, if someone out there can take a nice high res photo of a hubcap for me I'll forward it to my source for consideration. At the end of the day I anticipate that my source will sell these direct and I'll be out of the loop.

          Thanks in advance,

          Bill

Mike, PM me with your street address, I'll send you a check for a set in the morning. I have a Deluxe BC65, 1940. If you get enough interest, I'd like the brackets too. I'm S-L-O-W-L-Y trying to restore the ship to close to original condition, (I'm going to use Luscombe exhaust), on the outside, except for the second exhaust poking out the lower cowl, I want the plane to look stock. I have 6 sets of that style NOS that have not had the lip rolled into them yet and carry a Shinn p/n. I have a pattern for the attachment bracket as well. $50 per set shipped to the board. Anyone else $80 per set. Does not include the bracket. If enough people wanted them, I would consider making a bunch of the brackets.

I just sent a set for Mtowsley. He hasn't got them yet and they are not hard to make, just take a little time. No paperwork and the metal gnomes made them for me. Pm sent.

                Re: Hubcap Availability

There is a single 3-screw hubcap on ebay right now. It looks like it needs a little work to get some dings out, but looks like just the ticket for taking to a metal shop as a pattern.

                  Re: Hubcap Availability

Hello. I am new to the site (been lurking for about a month). My Dad, brother and I are new owners of a '43 L-2M as of this summer. We found it about 5 miles from the airport we base out of. It was on floats and had one wing removed. It also had a turtle deck installed on its back and an O-200 on the front end. It is currently in pieces with all but the frame cleaned and primed. All of the wood will have to be replaced so we will be making wing ribs, etc. soon. The plan is to restore it back to the L-bird configuration (except for the O-200, we like the power).

Glen Brodeur: I would be interested in getting a set of those hubcaps if they are still available. Let me know if they are available and how to contact you if they are.

....Not to start a stampede here but I have some of the three hole units that are WELL used, maybe a little beat up. I will share them with anyone that needs a set. Keep them, copy them, pass them around. They're not going on my '41 BL and I need to thin my inventory anyway. I don't need any money for them, just pay the shipping. Fair enough?

My old offer to metal bump out the dents on a set in exchange for using them to make a pattern stands. You have to be patient though, I'm SLOOOOOW!
OK, PLEASE don’t send me a set that are so bashed up it takes a year to fix them!
