  • Welcome NC96035

Just got back from Jackson, Michigan Saturday morninig with my new bird- She is a 1946 BC12-D-85 with seaplane fittings. If anyone gets a lead on a good set of 1320 EDO's keep me in mind.

Some of you may know it from when Joe Knight owned it. He did an outstanding 7 year restoration - finishing it in late 1999. He replaced every nut bolt and washer in it and really did a good job covering it in Stitts and polytone. Anyway- I made the 500 n.m. trip in less than 5 hous flight time- At one time I had a 135 mph groundspeed over the mountains but the turbulence was nothing short of terrible. With each upslope lift felt I would pull the throttle back and wait on the sink on the othe rside- my flight bag hit the roof on several occasions! Anyway- we are both home safe and sound.

In October there is a really good fly-in in Camden, SC. So far we have a flight of 9 planes going down from our area. Hope to see some of you there.

Flying is easy- to go up you pull back, to go down you pull back a little farther.

I saw T-rex's 1320's on this site in the for sale section. He's asking $14,000. That's $1,500 less than new Baumann BF1500's. Sounds like they have been all re-done. Eric...Post us some pictures soon. Congrats and good luck.

          Eric,

Congrats again. By the way, it looks like the L-2 purchase may be in the near future depending on the pre-buy. I found some pictures of Joe Knight's T-Craft from 2000, does it look the same. Looked nice in the pictures! Enjoy!!!
          Cheers,

                        Eric,
You have picked up a Great Airplane I know it well. I live about 60 miles south (Ohio) of where Joe kept the plane and he has brought it down to my strip. Again one of the best Taylorcrafts around congratulations..

By the way does anyone know where or what Joe Knight is doing? He seems to have fallen off the face of the earth.

                          Re: Welcome NC96035

Guys- I flew it again yesterday. . . .I love it. My daughter is happy to have some wings as well. My wife informed me that I am a different person now that I have something to fly and that if I were ever to be without an airplane she would leave- gotta love that!

Joe is doing really well. We have become friends over the last several months. I approached him years ago after it won Oshkosh about selling. Each year I called and asked and finally he decided to let her go. I could really tell it was an emotional decision for him- he spent 7 years restoring it and did a great job. I am lucky to have it. When I left his strip I flew over and wagged the tail- I bet money he was a bit emotional.

Joe still lives in Jackson and ahs a hanger at Napolean. I think he is in the book if you want to give him a call.

I will wait a while on the floats. I have to recover financially before I can get them. Maybe if there is a set in need of re-build that would be an option.
