  • Getting rid of old gasoline

I"m putting in some sweat equity at the strip where I'll eventually house 88M and put the following to the crew during lunch:

I just emptied 5 gals of three year old AvGas from 88M. If it were fresher, I'd mix in a little at a time with each car fill-up, but this stuff probably doesn't have any oomph left, so how do I get rid of it? Guy suggests I buy a bag of kittylitter and let the gas absobe into it, then let it evaporate over the next weeks. Sounds like a good way to get rid of bad gas to me! - Mike

Mike bring it up and pour it in my farm gas tank. Those 50 and 60 year old tractors love old gas One of them has a distillate sp? set up on it.

I have run 5 year old 100ll without any problems. It doesn't go bad like unleaded. Make sure it is clean and run it in something.

Stick in on the next barbeque.

Or you could market it as fuel for "Zippo" lighters...aaaahhhhh!!! the smell is wonderful!

Because of the lead in AvGas, the barbeque might present a problem with lead ingestion. Also, in most modern cars, the lead will spoil the catalytic converters. Tractor use would seem the best choice.

Any piece of equipment without a catalytic converter would be happy to burn it. Lawnmower, tractor, outboard, etc. If it were clean it would probably be fine to burn in the plane. If the gas is still there it has the oomph left in it.

Pour it on kitty litter & you would have flammable kitty litter. Might as well let it sit in an open container as put it on cat litter.

"Flaming kitty litter" - has a certain ring to it.- Mike

I mix mine with old oil and take it to the recycling tank at our local dump. Its a couple of 1000 gallon tank, so it gets dilluted. Its ususally a couple of gallons at most, but I have asked them and they said it was ok, as long as I did not pour in pure gas or a large amount. They told me that it all comes out when they recycle it, but no water please.
