Err-um.....not for the archives, but I have offerred to do a spiel at the Alliance Taylorcraft fly-in on Saturday 10 July. This will be in the form of a "forum" of my experiences of Shinn brake installation, owner maintenance and adjustment. I think 10:00 local time at 2D1, so be there or be square.

I cannot publish in advance what I will be advocating, because I haven't worked it out yet. But in essence it will be a summation of 12 years experience of owner maintenance on the classic Shinn brake system.

p.s. anyone got a cheap England - Ohio plane ticket going?

        Bob:

The linings are drilled and counterbored using the wheel itself as the drilling pattern. Use the original lining to determine the counterbore depth. Care must be taken to ensure that during drilling, counterboring and riveting, the lining lies perfectly flush with the inside of the drum, else the pressure of the shoes will crack the lining.

You would obvously need access to drill press, correct dia counterbore, etc. Unless you are experienced at this, it might be worth getting someone else to do it.
