  • Lower windshield aluminum strip

Was this strip orginally attached with machine screws (which will of course require nuts to be somehow tightened from the inside) OR were sheet metal screws used? Scott I know you used rivets...my skills are not like yours and not going to butcher up a new boot cowl and new strip with a lack of such skills.

I believe the original installation was with panhead slotted machine screws. Perhaps the thinking was the strip needed to be removed for windshield R&I but this is not the case.

It may not be necessary to remove the band to remove the windshield but it is sure nice to be able to take it off and get it out of the way. It is also VERY soft aluminum and gets dented and damaged easily. It is MUCH easier to tap out the damage off the fuselage. While it is off it is also nice to be able to tape over the fuselage boot cowl and windshield gap under it to stop water from getting into the cabin. THe aluminum strip can completely cover the tape.

Admit "almost" never in our life times will it need to come off however I am using the rubber gasket the Bakers supplied me with as purchased from them. One day it will again need replacement...again not me probably doing it but one never knows damage does occur as well. Scotts sure looks tempting if my skill sets would allow me the riveted look as it is so clean.
