JOhn - sorry - I was doing well on it when something else demanded attention (looking for an airplane) and I haven't gotten back to it. Thanks for the reminder - MIke

          Tom,

I also would like the drawings. Am now giving dual to my son-in-law and now two Grand Sons.

          Thanks

Can anyone tell me what a "BD-12D" is?? I have actually seen that designation used occasionally, and never could figure out what it means. I am unaware of any Taylorcrafts built with engines beginning with the letter D, or diesel Taylorcrafts, etc. Was there ever a BD Taylorcraft or is it just a frequent typo error? Good GOD don't tell me Jim Bede was ever involved...

Lee - in the interim, I recall someone suggested having the student sit on the right side - Mike

I could use a copy of the dwgs as well. It sure would help me with my right seat time....

I could send SASE if needed or reimburse for postage....

I know this thread has been dormant for many years now, but was anyone ever able to come up with some "engineering drawings" for the "strap-on" dual brakes? I would be very interested to find out how this works. I have been wanting to add brakes to the right side of our Tcraft ever since we got the plane, as we use it exclusively for a primary trainer. I have simply been keeping students in the right seat until they are competent on the rudders and I feel that I can trust them to swap seats.

Holy Cow, Batman! Another old thread resurrection!
                      Welcome to the Forum, OA-MAP!

I own (and have owned) two UK-based Taylorcraft, in which I think about forty or more tailwheel pilots have cut their taildragging teeth over the last 25-35 years or so, including myself. Neither Taylorcraft had right-hand brakes, and the Instructor always sat in the right. Most of the instruction/conversion on hard runway. None have ever ground-looped.

Find the right Instructor (and in our case there were several over those 25-35 years; I'm not one of them).

My 45 has factory RH brakes, but the cables haven't been hooked up and there were no pedals. Brakes are really NOT that great an idea in my opinion, especially for students. They don't work very well most of the time and can cause real problems if mashed at the wrong time. Taylorcrafts are great examples of planes that need energy management. If you want to see what the RH brakes system looks like I have lots of photos. These are welded in mounts that seem to have never been hooked up from the factory. The mounts were under the floor boards and I doubt most prior owners ever knew they were there.
