I think its back to working.

I made contact with Bob and we tag-teamed the issue. Honestly, he just knows the admin settings in the software more than I do and found the attachment fix.

thank you again for pointing out the issue Mark Bowden !

some user accounts had a password that the new software didn't like. and if your email address was no longer valid you couldn't set a new password. I just finished editing the users that reported a problem.

There was a config setting in vb that did not migrate correctly and that caused attachments (like photos) to not display. We got that fixed tonight.

And... I found the original forum header picture - the yellow tcraft cowl badge and put that back on.

i dont have my glasses so hopefully this is readable!

email me at [email protected] if you are having problems.

Ted, That seemed to have fixed the problem (at least for me). I can see photos in my past posts and in other peoples posts.
It also fixed a problem that I had for a really long time. In that I could never see my past messages or notifications. They also re-populated.

          Great fix, thank you!

            Ted

I had to reset my password. It said the old was too short when trying to re use it. My bet is the folks here that did not have to reset had longer or mixed symbol passwords to begin with.
Thank you for what you do.!!!

Had to reset password...worked fine to log on...haven't checked access to forum features yet. Thanks Ted, for being able and willing to do the admin. stuff. Being 80 yrs. old, it;s all a mystery to me!

Yeah... I feel like some policy was updated in the server move. But the files and database were just copied from one location to the next so I sure wouldn't think any would have changed. My only guess is that either the new Operating System or the new database server kicked back some requirements that made the forum want to force new passwords for some.

I think it's going to fall into one of those tech mysteries where I'm going to let it slide unless it reoccurs.

You're about the same age as my dad who I'm regularly assisting too. Happy to help. I have to admit, it gets hard to follow all the details even at a younger age too!

I may be an Interesting problem...

I start with a fresh invocation of firefox on my Fedora Linux desktop. If I use my old bookmark to https://www.taylorcraft.org/ and then use the link to the forum at http://vb.taylorcraft.org/ (my old standard way of getting to the forum) it sends me to the "you are not logged in" page. Trying to login says "invalid, change your password". Changing the password gets the "change" email to me, but the change password link doesn't seem to let me set a password that logs me in. I am following the minimum password requirements I think. It just keeps cycling me to the "invalid, change password" page,

However, with another fresh invocation of firefox, and then using the link in the change-password email https://vb.taylorcraft.org/settings I get directly to the settings page correctly logged in as me! I use the "back to profile" icon and from that page the little "home" icon at the upper left and here I am seemingly correctly logged in at the forum.

I have tried this several times now and it seems that using the "back door" through the settings page I can get into the forum, but it would be nice to be able to come in the "front door" with a correct login.

Take a look at my account if you would and see if anything jumps out at you.

Oh, and as lots of others have said, A big "Thank You" for keeping the forum going and up to date!

Why not just go directly to vb.taylorcraft.org ?

Sure. I just added a direct bookmark to vb.taylorcraft.org.

My old habit of using the bookmark to www.taylorcraft.org is simply an old habit. I still use it to go to documents or galleries or such upon occasion. It has always been an easy habit to hit the bookmark and then the link to the forum in the middle of the page. So yeah, I discovered the workaround quickly (as I just used for this visit).

But it is also a good idea to note any weird new behavior like this after an upgrade. Sometimes it's nothing, but as there is a link on www.taylorcraft.org "The Taylorcraft Foundation Discussion Forum" right in the middle of the page that broke for me after the upgrade, it might be useful to the administrators to find something maybe more serious. Or maybe just a cleanup of some sort. Or maybe something in my browser is broken. Or...

Has anyone else had problems using the link from www.taylorcraft.org? Or is it just me for some reason? Curious minds want to know.

Ah, I may have just figured it out. As I just added a direct link to the forum in my bookmarks, I noticed that the working link is now HTTPS: while the old link on the www.taylorcraft.org page is HTTP:
If this was a security upgrade, it may be that the old link on www.taylorcraft.org to the forum need to be updated from HTTP: to HTTPS: and the non-secure link was causing page to ignore my existing login.

The setup should be that anything going to HTTP gets redirected to HTTPS. But it should have been that way pre-migration too. I agree that there isn't much need for the link on www.taylorcraft.org to point to HTTP. That's a simple enough change to do myself here quickly. (just changed it now)

I'll check out the account this evening when I have more focus time. I appreciate the detailed notes of what you saw.

This is how I access it too. But I don't mind sweeping up odds and ends to make sure it works from every approach.
