  • compression struts

    some wings have two piece reinforcement cups on the compression struts and some don't. Can someone explain this

      those are only found on the early birds. I don't know what there purpose is.

        I was told many years ago that in 1940 and beyond Taylorcraft made the compression struts out of Heavier material due to the earlier ones, the holes for the drag wires were streching. They made a two piece clamp for existing wings to reinforce this area. Not certain but I think this was a AD back in the day.

ID:	195650 here are pictures of 1940 manf date ​ (with reinforce) and date 1946 (without). I think your right ,the earlier looks thinner material
