Use one of the water-soluble products that Boeing use. It's Ardrox 2814. I've used it a lot. It's a lot slower than the old methylene-chloride based strippers, but is a lot safer to you and the environment (it won't burn your skin, but I wouldn't drink it!).

It's a pink-coloured solution/gel, somewhat like a watered-down Jello, that needs aerating with a whisk (I use a whisk on a drill) and then brushed coarsely on to a surface which has been pre-cleaned with AvGas or mineral spirits to remove surface oils. Sanding the existing painted surfaces accelerates the process.

Wrap the whole thing in cling-film or other plastic wrap and leave to stew for a few days; you'll see the progress through the plastic.

Then remove plastic, hose off, let dry thoroughly and then prep the bare skin for paint. Note: not good for steel parts; the water content promotes steel corrosion.

Finished with that job thank goodness! Also a Bg thanks to Mike Redpath for selling the two door handles. Now on to door skin repair , new set windows. BTW what are folks doing for tracks?

Thank you Hank. I am not going to pile on door interior on top of the metal interior door panels. Simple , straight orginal and light is the key!

Check for any dents and damage to the inside. Sometimes a thin vinyl upholstery can be lighter than (God forbid) a slather of Bondo to get the metal smooth. You can also make a NON STRUCTURAL filler from a little (as little as possible) thin epoxy mixed with micro balloons.

I worked my way through college at a newspaper-- remember them? In the printing plant. It was a night time gig 8 pm to 4 am. The people who separated negatives for multiple color printing were "color strippers." My employer had a temp-agency on-call for times when extra help was needed for busy times or sick employees. Apparently there was a new hire on night duty at the temp-agency. The attractive young African-American lady they sent one night had a feathered boa, high heel boots and not much else...
