Getting ready to install the BPE-14 on a 46 BC-12D. Owner wants to use an earthx battery, putting a MGL remote radio and an AV-20 indicator. Seeking opinions on where's the best place for the battery, battery box/strap, buss location etc.

battery can go on the fireway, earth x is not even close to being approved, look at the Oddessy PC680, there is a 337 to mount one on the firewall, I did it back in the 90's. there is also the sbs-16j battery that is approved. Burls aircraft makes a good battery box for the firewall, I have a 337 posted for one of those too. Its super light. Master and start solenoid next to battery to keep your cables short and therefore light.N29787

I was talking with a longez owner yesterday, his earthx was dead because he let the charge get too low and now it wont take a charge. The alternator died on a night flight so he ran on battery until he could get it to an airport and then the next day he flew it to his home airport. Now when he used that fancy charger, it just flashed red which meant a battery failure. That does not give me confidence in their lasting. TImN29787

All of the batteries have issues of one kind or another. If you run the PC680 down you will have problems too. You might get it charged back up, but it will never be the same. Also if you use the wrong charger, or the system charges at too high of a rate it will ruin them too.
