  • Baumann Float Rigging

I’m looking for some info on rigging for Baumann 1420s on a BCS12D. Does anyone have pics of the mount brackets or drawings? Also if someone has a set, would you be able to measure the lengths for me?

    Doesn't Baumann carry the drawings?

      They shut down in 2011.

Dano had Baumans, but I haven't seen hide nor hair of him on here for a while.

The Baumann's are interesting. Claims 1" wider and 1.5" taller. I talked to Bud many years ago and he said at first the BF1420's were too long and caught the tails on takeoff some, so he shortened the float so guess that's where the BF 1500's started as same length as 1320's? He liked +3.5* angle between the float top and aircraft C/L. Some EDO floats are 4-4.5 max. The longer tail of about a foot over EDO 1320's would be nice, but anything that stays high and dry when loaded isn't floating the plane. The bottom width would help some...same for any angles attached before the step to hold in side spray.

If anyone knows DanoT please let him know about this thread. Looking at his old pics and his plane, it looks like he may have sold it, as there is another that looks the same on Baumanns I found on Facebook.

He was last on here June 2018. Either my son or I sent him a PM about using one of his old pictures in the calendar.

To close this out for someone’s future research, Baumann shut down in 2011, and the STC and all intellectual property was transferred to Basler Turbo Conversions. Basler currently does not want to support anyone about Baumann floats so you can’t install them using the STC. Other methods are possible but the installation drawings/instructions are needed. I was not able to find copies of either through many sources, although I was still searching and contacting individuals with the floats currently installed. The seller ended up selling them to someone else who mentioned they were going on an experimental, so no paperwork needed.

Sucks there is basically zero support for a seemingly awesome setup.
