As an STC owner, I can sympathize with the STC owners... BUT... not that many years ago, it was common to get an airplane that someone else had modified and there would only be the 337, or if you were really lucky, the 337 and the cover letter or approved aircraft list for that STC.
But here, it seems the STC is no longer supported? In that case, I'd get ahold of the ACO for that STC and talk to them. It IS on file there, and they will try to get in touch with the holder of the STC, and if that fails, they can get you copies of the paperwork that is required. You might have to go through your local FSDO and PMI, but they DO have a copy at the District ACO for that STC.

Once upon a time in Alaska it was common for installers to keep the STC instructions for next time. They became like a deck of baseball cards to be valued and traded as required.
Johns guidance on asking for the ACO's help is positive. I hope it ends up benefitting all.

Congratulation on tracking down the needed letter. Some of the information can be tough to come by. Glad you found what you were looking for. When you make a major repair or alteration to the type certificate, like a STC, it needs to be recorded with the FAA. Unfortunately they use the same form to do this, the 337. The STC is recorded on the 337, but a 337 is not a STC.
