Wing tank fuel cap

    Lebow Eaton sold out to another company and they only build the large quantity stuff anymore (globalization and just in time manufacturing), they quit making the caps that fit our airplanes (I called them), but there some suppliers that seem to have an endless supply, they must have to buy a large supply to get them built or just have a large warehouse filled with them. If you need a header tank, do not use the wag one, it will sink. Look at getting the univair J3 one, mine has lasted 15 years so far, the wag one I had lasted a year.

    It seems the main tank caps come up for sale more often. I bought a used main tank cap and replaced the cork float tube with a breather tube.

    I bought a new cap off ebay this summer that was the exact same cap. It was called an EATON fuel cap for antique tractor. As Tim stated above you would have to braze on the vent tube and the tabs. When the cap arrived it had the exact same dimensions, and markings as all three caps on our BC12D and the two caps on the 15A.

    Look for used Cub caps or you can get new from Atlee Dodge/univair, or Doug Combs may have them for the luscombe. They should all have a vent tube that faces forward. If you want period correct, you will need to braze on tabs that say (6 Gal....Gas) Some of the cub guys seem to like it where the vent faces forward and is tall, which puts it out of the boundary layer air when at higher angles of attack. There are not may wing tank caps around for our airplanes that are intact anymore. Tim
