    Now that I re read Ryans post......
    Well then that probably answers my question. My bet is the trunk latch cowling was put on after its 1960 accident. It does present a cleaner look with the Dzus fastners. Doors will be replaced or reskinned and get some proper frames to provide slider capability. . Cowling now another new fab job I suppose.

      I may have some dzus fasteners that will work if you are willing to use wing type...Tim

        A friend of mine that worked there in the 40's Ken Culler) said they'd grab whatever parts were on hand to finish an airplane and get it out the door. So quite often they didn't follow all the "changes" in order like was wanted.

            Yes I have heard that as well. not sure about the trunk latches however on this early a model in 46... but they may have been laying around already. The trunk latches are not purty ...they do work well however
