There may be a potential cylinder source in whole engines....installed or on the floor. They may cost more but if the cylinders and other components are ok are they worth salvaging for parts? Maybe not if then some shop has to repair them. Then for an overhaul they have to be redone to engine builder's specs.

The days of cheap airworthy parts are ending. An engine overhaul can equal or exceed the value of the entire airplane in the case of Taylorcraft and others.

Edit: It appears there's some takeoffs available on the Taylorcraft Facebook thread.

Thanks! I'm in touch with Marshall at Gibson already, and have approached Airmark in Florida as well. I have a few other leads being followed-up on, so hopefully should be able to get something sorted soon.

Sent them out only to find one had a 60yr old crack in the exhaust port to the seat and the other had the valve guide hole so sloppy the guide had 10 thou clearance in it and was bouncing all over the place. After calling over a dozen places I found two cylinders at Gibson in Oklahoma. I think the guy who I talked to was Marshall. Might be worth a shot... sold me two chromed cylinders for $1700+shipping and I have had no issues since.
That's very frustrating, I have been thru experiences like that also.

I chuckle though when I hear about the legendary old mechanic who knows what is really needed and is unencumbered by unnecessary service bulletins and manual details because of extended experience and knowledge.

I am thinking that may be the guy who put those valves back in.
