No hope for a job is the way it used to be. Now they are begging for pilots. They are offering tuition reimbursement, signing bonuses, and other incentives. On the local St Louis FB page I see recruiting for pilots and mechanics on a regular basis. Many schools have partnerships with airlines, and they are taking everyone they can graduate. From what I have been hearing it is only going to get worse over the next few years.

By "no hope for a job when done" I was referring to many professions other than aviation at the University level. Unless I'm explicit it often goes another direction. I agree aviation has a future at the typical aircraft and UAV level. Locally maintenance appears to draw more starts. But that may be due to the trainable skill set and job opportunities upon graduation with limited experience, versus flying which requires experience beyond training to get hired. However flying and maintenance are not for everyone unless exposed, prone, and gifted. For example, some have no idea how to drive a car or what makes them run.
