  • Control Wheels

I am trying to remove my control wheels to paint them. Have any of you ever run into a situation where someone glued them in place in addition to bolt/locknut? I can't get thes baby's off to save my soul. Any advice?

Round wheels or "pretzels"? The latter are restrained by a driven pin, and I doubt they will come out.

However, some new 4130 chromed tubing (or stainless in my case), and a new set of pretzels from Univair will restore full order, and then the old ones will go in the bin.

I am however still waiting for some kind soul to make a mould for new pretzel hubs. Hank?

      Re: Control Wheels

I still have Tom's master and a mold but have been devoting all my time to fiunishing the 41 and getting her back in the air. My "post retirement" "low pressure" job for "spending money" takes more time than when I was at NASA!
Good news is I will be making the masks for the Taylorcraft logos soon (all of them I think). Bad news is the Pretzel balls are for the 45 not the 41. Anybody want to make some cast parts that is faster than I am? At least not having the ball doesn't prevent you from flying the plane. ;-)

Don't know that the yoke can be pulled off the push tube without damaging something.
crawl under the panel - disconnect the yoke at the universal joint ('H' control column) bolted on at this end. Pull the tube & yoke out.

That sounds like a great idea. It seemed simple to just pull the wheels out so I didn't even look ant further until They wouldn't come out. Thanks guys.
