I wound up making my own, with the help of a good sheet metal man. If you have a pattern you are already 1/2 way there.

I made my own baffles out of thin aluminum (.025?) by looking at my old ones. They came out pretty close considering the old ones were pretty chewed up. A pair of snips helped them fit between the cylinders without a hitch. After etching and alodining them, I painted them with black heat resistant paint...same stuff for the back yard bbq grills. For the baffle seal, called Chief and they have some nice fiberglass reinforced silicone baffle seal.

So far, it works great.

No problem, that'll work. Purchased a sheet metal break from "Harbor Freight" yesterday. Practiced a little with it. Not an expensive on. 30 inch for $60. Think it will work just fine. Never have done much sheet metal work. Guess I can learn. Do it over until I get it right.

Sent my cylinder off to "Sentry Aircraft Cylinders" in Ft. Worth TX yesterday. Should get it back next week.

I want to pull the engine, sand and paint the firewall and also the engine. Gonna run a punch test on the lift struts also. Need to pull the wheels, pack the bearing and ck the brakes.

That's all, shouldn't take more than a month. With my other "Honey Do's" lol

Hi Lee,
You still have time for the Honey-do's. I falling way behine on mine sent I started the Pacer project. Just finished the left wing and all the rib stitching and ready to start painting. If the weather holds I may be ready by next month.

Here are some pictures of my engine baffleing...they really don't show too much but hopefully it helps a smidgen. The only ones I made from scratch were the side ones, the pressed front and back were the originals that I just reinforced in some areas and smoothed out the rough edges.

Suzy, looks good. Thanks. Really like the chrome grill and Valvue covers. Who did them for you ?

My cylinder I sent out to Sentry; he called yesterday. Out of round by .006 and cracked. Replaced with another cyl $390 plus gaskets.

Still trying to work with one hand, not easy. One more week and the cast comes off, that will help and I can get going on this annual and sprucing up things a bit. Really like the chrome value covers and grill. Hell think the Duck would look good like that.

Also meed to make heat muffs for my exhaust. Any help here ? Know all this will take most of March. Hopefully I can be flying by April.

Hi Lee,

I bought the chromed valve covers from wag aero for $70 or so and the grills I bought on ebay and took them to a custom bike shop here to be plated. I took them in along with my steps and for the 4 parts it ran close to $200. If you decide to do your grills, make sure you find a plater that can plate aluminum...not everyone is capable. It also takes about 3-6 weeks to get them back.

I am at a loss where to find a new exhaust shroud...I would think after all of the hurricanes, Florida may be a good place to start looking.

I was parusing the wagaero website and found this replacement baffle kit for contintal 65-85hp engines...maybe this will help you out.

I found the Wag.Aero baffel kit for A-65's. Does anyone know if this is the same as the ones for the BC-12D ?

Also, brake linnings ? Wag has them for the Taylorcraft Sportsman. Are these the ones we need for the shinn brakes ? Or better yet, where is the bestplace to purchase these ? Also tool to install the linnungs ?

Hi Lee,

The continental 65hp engine in my BC-12D is a Continental A-65 engine. I assume the baffle kit will work, but you know about assuming.

p.s. Are you all set on wheels, races and bearings? I have a nice set laying around here...the wheels are etched and alodined and painted with a nice silver gray. I also have a set of shinn brakes (minus the linings).

Think my wheels are okay , at least for now. Need to order linning and rivets and tool. Is this tool the same as we use on Clevland Hyd brakes ? Have one of those.

Rob had edited your last post and worked great to get to Wag. Put the baffels in a cart, but will try and fabricate a set myself first. Any .025 Alum ? or do we need aircraft alum.?

Packed my bearings yesterday. By the hardest. Still working with one hand, and typing also. Due to get the cast off in another week from Tuesday.

Looks like I have plenty linning left, just the rivets are about to hit the wheel. Probably didn't counter sink deep enough. (not me, previous owner).

Kinna cool and rainny today, but will go out to my hangar (converted barn) and do a little work. Don't have anything to fly now, anyhow.
