  • Intoductions and My Project

Several years ago I purchased a 1939 Taylorcraft BL-65, serial # 1308, basket case. It was disassembled for covering 35 years ago. It passed through 3 or 4 others before I purchased it. Surprising, all of the big pieces are there. The lycoming 0-145 was overhauled by Elreno Aviation. Last year I had it disassembed for inspection by a local IA. He replaced gaskets and resembled. It is in excellant condition. Over the last 10 years I have, finished the fuse, covered and painted. I am working with a local IA to insure the airplane retains certificiation. Now that I am retired, the project will have my fill attention.

From time to time I have questions. I can get some answered at my local airport, I hate to wear my welcome thin. I am hoping to make some contacts at this site with t-craft owners of like airplanes. My purpose is to pose question on the reassembly problems. I am currently installing and plumbing the engine.

Is this forum the "place to be" for restoration help? Thanks in advance.

I don't think you CAN wear your welcome out here with questions. Some of us have tried and failed. In short order you will become one of the "answerers" more often and an "asker" less. I think I have found almost every problem known to Taylorcraftdom (engineers never seem to fly, they just "improve" things constantly and inspect their birds to death). At least I am on a weight reduction program (the plane, not me) and don't do like some of my buddies and add every do-dad that comes along to my baby. When she flys, she will be as close to perfect as I can make her.
Ask away! Every problem someone asks is an excuse for me to run out and look at my plane for the same condition.

          Don,

All you have to remember is that the only dumb question is the UNASKED question.

            Don,

I have a hunch that we only live one airport apart, and we probably know some of the same people. I own two 1946 BC12D's, one which is totally disassembled but have done some rebuilding on it, and the other one which has the wings tail and the gear removed, but otherwise is still covered. I just finished a brand X 4 year total rebuild, but if you think I can help, or just want to talk airplanes (Taylorcrafts and/or brand X) give me a call. If we are as close as I think, we might do lunch or ??
