  • Hose clamps and fuel lines

On my new-to-me BC12D, hose clamps are holding the fuel line on both ends from fuel tank to gascolator. I'm just wondering if that is proper? Should there be pipe-thread fittings?
The line from gascolator to carb has fittings on each end.

Mine was exactly like that when I bought mine. I replaced it with proper hose and fittings with fire sleeve.
    Cheers,
    Marty

Originally it had barbed fittings with hose clamps between fuel tank and gascolator, and gascolator and carb. Many have switched to modern fire sleeved aircraft hoses with flared fitting ends. Finding a quality aviation designed hose to use for the barbed fittings is difficult since they dropped fuel from the MIL 6000 hose specification.

Well maybe I'll leave them alone for now, then, and attack something a bit more dire.

You can find true PARKER braided teflon hose and wrench on JIC fittings (not crimped on fittings), they exceed the original spec and are allowed.

I'll have to take a look at the Parker hose and JIC fittings, I'm not a fan of these hose clamps where they're at ... currently swapping out tailsprings and deciding on a tailwheel, but I'll be back at the front of the plane shortly.

I think it is an operational preference. I am not a fan of the big Scott. I prefer a small hard rubber wheel, with a Lang being at the top of my list. That being said I am operating off mostly off of hard surface or nice grass. If I was operating off of rough somewhat unimproved strips it would likely change my preference.

Double Forked Like on my Baby Ace. I believe it to be a Lang. Perhaps a Heath? Anyway I also do not believe a larger tailwheel necessary never had any issues with a small hard rubber job in the past on any of the Taylorcrafts I have owned owned or flown. All our experiences seem different so to each is own (damn I am getting soft in my old age...)
