Will there be a Taylorcraft fly-in in Alliance OH in 2018?

Will there be a Taylorcraft fly-in in Central Texas this year?

    If not, where?

    Thanks, John

    Re: Taylorcraft Fly-ins

    Hi John,

Forrest has not had a fly-in at Alliance for several years nor do I think he will. Other than that, I have no knowledge of other Taylorcraft specific fly-ins, (except maybe Texas)?
    Cheers,
    Marty

For the last 28 years Ron Sawyer has hosted a Taylorcraft fly-in in northern California. Generally the event is held in May at Columbia, CA or near by. This year will be the 29th annual event. A great group of guys come each year.

If there was interest in having one in the central US, and someone wants to help organize let me know. There is a nice grass strip Northwest of Effingham, IL. I think the owner would be willing to let us use. There is plenty of parking for both aircraft and cars. He has room for campers, with a few hook ups. It is about 10-15 minutes drive from several hotel and dining choices.

I think Central US is a good Choice for the "Main Taylorcraft Fly-IN" however I would add I think it would be best us to have regional fly Ins scattered North East, South East and West of the Rockies giving us four each year in total. Weather being what it is that may be better for our overall tribe.

I would be willing to Host one here in South Carolina. Probably at KCUB- Columbia SC in late October which would run in conjunction with our annual AEROFEST event which is a display featuring Military, Unique homebuilt, and Vintage /Classic Aircraft which benefits a local Charity called Camp Kemo- A camp set up for children and their families to go for a sense of a normal life while undergoing Chemo treatment. I have had the EAA Tri Motor here two years in a row (2016 and 2017) and it was a tremendous success both years . This year we will have a T6 and possibly a B17 doing the ride thing.

I would like to see one in New England to allow some of us a chance to explore that region also!

I know the strip Tom is talking about in Illinois. Nice location for a fly-in.

                Re: Taylorcraft Fly-ins

I would be happy to host an annual fly-in event in Mesquite, Nevada. That could satisfy a West/Southwest venue.

We are a small community (18,000 people). We have one (lighted) runway (5,121'x75'). Plenty of rooms are available at any of our three casinos; the cheapest being $27 at the Virgin River Casino. Median price for all the casinos is around $60. If you don't want to stay at a casino, we have the requisite Holiday Inns, Clarions, etc.

In addition to the casino angle, we also have 8 (nice) golf courses. A few years ago, one of our courses (Wolf Creek) was voted as the best public golf course in the world by the Wall Street Journal. Playing a round at Wolf Creek is pricey, but green fees ant any of our other courses are much more reasonable.

Then, if you HAVE to go to Vegas, downtown is about an hour and a half away. St. George is 40 miles Northeast. If you are one for National Parks, Zion, Cedar Brake and others are about an hour or so past St. George.

Sooooooooo if there is any interest in having a fly-in to Mesquite NV, I'll take care of it.

                Peter

There better be a shuttle bus and keg waiting in Mesquite then!

Still hoping there will be the Central Texas Fly-In.. I am assuming a May Time Frame.

                    Still at Ft. Parker (01TS)

Just a reminder that it is less then a month for the May 11-13th 29th annual West Coast Taylorcraft fly-in at Columbia, CA. A fly-out pancake breakfast is planned for Saturday morning. Camping at the on the field camp ground is available, and transportation to a motel is also available. Columbia also has a nice grass runway to use!
All Taylorcraft owners and friends are encouraged to attend. I believe Ron is planning to have his famous desert Saturday night which you won't want to miss. Fly in or drive in if have to. If you have any questions contact Ron at 209-536-9415. Please pass this on to anyone you know who would be interested. Peter Roy you are welcome to join us.... hope you can make it.
