What is the correct company logo Taylorcraft used during production of a 1946 BC-12D? I see about 4 different versions of the company insignia. Thanks

    Re: Taylorcraft Logo

There are more than 4. Taylorcraft changed logos more often than most folks change their underwear. I have pictures of most of the logos but knowing exactly when your plane was built would help. Of course if the new stencil was in use no telling if the painter would pick up the old one and use it on a particular plane. ;-)

I will try to post photos and drawings of the ones I have so others can fill in any other ones they have seen. Always like to add new ones I haven't seen yet.

      Re: Taylorcraft Logo

It’s a 1946 BC12D. N95132, serial number 9532, does this help identifying when/what month it was manufactured? The logs just show Sept 1946 as first flight. Grew up with Aeroncas and have little knowledge of Taylorcrafts. My Grandpa bought this airplane in 1974 at an estate sale in pieces as a project, the last annual was March 1961 with 632 TTAF. Grandpa is 86 yrs old now and has never been in it, just trying to get it done (yet do a nice restoration). Finishing off the interior and wanted correct logos for embroidery/decals etc. Just don’t want to show up at Oshkosh and have experts tell me I pimped my post war T out in pre war stencils or something crazy like that ya know—-Any info helps. Thanks

I've redrawn some of the logos, in case anyone needs them in a higher resolution.

          Re: Taylorcraft Logo

The best way to get the right logo for YOUR plane is to find a factory photo of your N number (good luck). The next best is to go through old aviation magazines looking for Taylorcraft advertisements for the new planes. That is where I got most of my old pictures. The problem is if they had a really great 41 photo they would sometimes use it in a later advertisement, so you need to look for clues as to the age of the plane in the photo (the NC number being one of the best). NEW photos of restored planes will lead you down the wrong path. There is no way to know if the person who painted the plane knew if his info was correct.
I am pretty confident in what was used on a 40, a 41 De Luxe and an early 45. I also have pictures of the Dorthy Ferris era F-19s. When I was gathering the info I really should have kept ALL of the logos but at the time I was just researching my 41 and 45.

We REALLY need to get the Taylorcraft club going again. The news letters were great and a wonderful source of copies of the old advertisements. I have an almost complete collections of the original Taylorcraft news letters and would really like to get the missing issues if anyone has any I could copy or scan. I would be glad to share what I have and a section with the old copies here would be great if we can get a complete set. At one time I had permission to share almost all but the newest ones (a company that was printing them wouldn't give permission at one time, but I don't even know if they exist any more). I also have an almost complete set of the Virginia Carolinas Taylorcraft club news letters and they are great reads! I just need to get muy scanner up and running again. They are a treasure trove of info!

            Hi Al,

Please post some pictures of your project. Curious, what was the engine like after that much time sitting?

You are lucky to have the logs back to first flight. Do you have the FAA CD? It may have some pages that would have some quality/inspection sign off dates that might help narrow down time of year built, vs. when they hung an AW cert on it and delivered it.

Great it has been in the family that long and that she will be back in the air after some 57 years.

At that airframe time it isn't even broken in yet!

              Hank,

I have never seen that last one in your photo with the turned up edges. I always thought the companies who reproduced them were turning up the edges to replicate the older ones. Have you ever seen a picture with one, I haven't found one.
              Cheers,
              Marty

I am pretty sure that one was on an old advertisement in an Air Trails or similar. I also saw it in the old Taylorcraft news letters but that doesn't prove that one is correct. Old photos are the ones to put your faith in.

Thanks for all the info guys! Yea I will send out for the FAA CD and try and get some pictures up! Taylorcraft Club and magazine would be great info for everyone as is this forum! This is the third attempt at restoration in 50+ years it’s been in the family, so although it was never completed, the engine was disassembled in the 70s & parts had been oiled and stored as best as they could. Took the crank M10 to clean up some light pitting. Finished up the engine 3 weeks ago can’t wait to get it flying! Thanks for the help!
