    I replaced my bungees 2 years ago (purchased from aircraft spruce) and all though I do a lot of landings it seems as though they should not be sagging yet. They are sagging about 1/2 inch so about time for replacement. Some one once posted a color code for telling the manufacture date of a bungee, I was wondering if it was still around?

    I don,t see a way to close this thread, but will not be monitoring it so please see new Thread titled 2018 Bungee group buy leave comments there and we will see if we can get enough folks interested.

    I run the L2 and/or the CW bungies to prevent sagging, mine are 7 years old and still in good shape on my 41. What ones are you running on what airplane? Tim

      Bungee cord performance can be affected by age. Cord built to military specifications must be shipped to the end user within six months of the date it was manufactured. To ensure compliance with this requirement, mil-spec cord uses a color-coded outer covering to indicate the date of manufacture. The main color indicates the year as follows: red (1992), blue (1993), yellow (1994), black (1995), and green (1996). For succeeding years, the cycle of colors is repeated starting with red again for 1997. To further define the date of manufacture, a second, minor color is incorporated into the outer covering as follows: red (January-March), blue (April-June), green (July-September), and yellow (October-December).

          It all got screwed up about 10 years ago when they quit making golf balls like they used to with rubber band material & a liquid center. They high quality rubber bands we'll call them are now gone & the only thing left doesn't last 1/3 as long as it used to. I have 2 bungee tools I need to find a new home for. Does the club need one to pass around? WHEN I find them I'd be glad to donate one.

            Used to caddy for golfers as a kid and scuffed golf balls were fun to cut and watch the bands unravel. The Urban Legend was they filled the center with bacteria in food liquid. The bigs would multiply and make the ball harder = longer drives. We cut one once and it sprayed over me and my buddy. Screamed and ran to rinse off in a nearby water trap so we didn't die right away.

            Not sure about bungees but it keeps someone busy making them.

              Not anymore, golf balls are foam filled hence the poor quality bungees. I shoot 22s at hanging golf balls at 200 yards & have drill a few thousand shags & found one old one with the liquid center.

                The rubber is still available, but the two largest users are bungees and model airplane rubber band materials. Two areas that were in the margins when the major user was golf ball manufacture! When Chuck and I did a buy last time we were VERY well received since the company was able to make a large buy of rubber and he could set up for a run of bungees. We got a series of price breaks for making a mass order. If someone wants to take it on I can provide the tracking spread sheet for orders. Chuck and I made no profit on the bungees but we sure got to meet a great bunch of tribe members.

                This is only teh 7th posting on this thread so it seems like it should be a good start if someone who started it wants to rename it 2018 bungee buy or something similar. Everyone who will need bungees soon post your order so a count can be made to take to the manufacturer. I know Chuck has sold his Taylorcraft but am pretty sure he could be talked into going to the maker and smoothing the rails for whoever manages this order. He is still friends with him and he lives fairly close. We SHOULD remember to include some extra in the cost since I think Chuck went into the hole on postage last time.

                First is, who wants to drive the train this time? Second is to dig up how we checked for weak bungees last time so we can all check our planes. If you haven't changed them in the last 5 years you SHOULD take a close look!

                    As I remember we didn't do but two part numbers last time, one for prewar and one for post war (slightly different size or stiffness). Whoever does it this time will have to get a price for the L-2s. A lot of the cost is in setting up to make them. If he can set up for 100 the set up cost is spread over 100 bungees, but if only 4 are made the set up cost is the same spread over only 4. The cost savings is in making a bulk run. The more L-2 guys who commit to buying a set, the better the price.
                    Anybody know how many L-2s there are and how many bungees per plane they would need? Afraid I know almost nothing about the L-2s except I like them.
