  • Pretzel Yoke Plastic covering

    Hello,

Does anyone have a source for the plastic covering that goes over the steel tubing on the pertzel yokes please?

I need to replace the plastic tubing on my center vertical tube as it has shrunk over the years. I'll be putting new yoke covers on at annual this year and want to fix this when the yokes are apart.

    Thanks, Mark

I removed all the plastic from the vertical and replaced it with large black heat shrink (leave lots of overhang....it shrinks a lot in length too). It came out nice.

        Re: Pretzel Yoke Plastic covering

The vertical is a steel tube with a plastic covering that provides a significant stiffening to the wheel. I don't think I would want to use a 3D printed part to replace it, plus it is a very simple steel part that is easy to repair and cover to make look brand new.

What WOULD be good is to use 3D printing to make the ball and small cover for the top of the steel tube if they are no longer available! The small fitting on top of the vertical tube tends to shrink and crack with age. When the new ball first came out the fitting wasn't included and I carved and painted mine. They came out great but took a while to make and buying one would have been well worth it.

          Hi,

In photo I was after the plastic covering on the steel shaft that has shrunk. Hank, I'll use shrink wrap. I wasn't after the covers or the shaft.

The yoke centers and and center shaft color ring are available from source below, John is quite helpful. I received mine and they fit great and are of high quality moldings.

As you have to take the yokes off the shafts to fully install them, they'll go on during annual in Jan. I'm also going to paint color match them to the aircraft. The logo buttons are not installed so you can paint them easily.

Don't really understand where the idea of replacing the steel tube came from. OP wanted to replace the cover. I simply asked about 3d printing a plastic tube to act as a cover.

When I ordered my centers a few years ago it came with those pieces. I may have had to specify if I wanted those parts and pay a bit more but I cannot remember. Long story short, he makes/made them.

                      Re: Pretzel Yoke Plastic covering

As I remember when I got my Pretzel balls they didn't come with anything but the ball, the screws and the center button (it was when they first came out). The later ones came with the little plastic piece at the top of the vertical steel tube (from the center ball to the curved outer tube). That is the part I carved. The plastic over the steel tube on mine had pulled back and exposed the steel tube at the ends so I just replaced it with heat shrink.
When we were talking about a 3D printed part i thought we were talking about replacing the whole vertical tube, not just a cover. If you can 3D print a cover I guess it would work, but the heat shrink was cheap and easy.
If you can get the ball kits they are worth every penny! Quality and fit was perfect and they look great.

                      Hank
