  • Would like opinions on an L-2M I'm considering

I'm considering buying an L-2M and would like to get some opinions on it. Here are a few details:

    O-200, 900 SMOH, good compressions.
Mags and carb were just overhauled.
    New tires, new bungees.
Good radio and transponder, don't need a transponder but would take it.
New Ceconite Fabric 4 years ago, but it was done to repair the plane after an accident. The plane was flown into a tree, one wing was rebuilt, all new, including new spars. The other was re-built using the original spars. Engine was not running when it went into the tree. The airplane has about 150 hours since the accident.

I have 15 pages of logs scanned, including the entries for the repairs. If anyone would be willing to look at those and give me opinions I would appreciate it. Asking price is $30k.

I'm not exactly close to your location, but if you can't find somebody closer I would be happy to look through your logs and render an opinion.
Meanwhile - it looks like Buckman is your neighbor over in Weatherford and he has some Taylorcraft knowledge... maybe some assistance there - at least another Tribesman close by too compare notes.
    Best Regards,

I saw the Guys ad for this L2 and would like to see it. I do not know anything about it but would like to have an L2
As to my Taylorcraft knowlege it is very minimal I have been doing lots of research and I like the Old Taylorcrafts.

I'll be glad to take you for a ride...if I buy it, it will be based at KWEA. I'm going to go get it in the next few weeks unless I can find a reason not to.

Do you have any interest in owning 1/2 or 1/3 of the plane?

Not really interested in any partnerships but would love to have the Aircraft. I have other projects going at this time or I would be looking to purchase that one too.
Good luck hope yall can make a deal

Pay close attention to the W&B. They are still limited to the original GW -- despite the added weight of bigger engine, avionics, etc.

Mark, here is a link to the recent log entries and additional pictures. If you want to review I'd be glad to hear your opinion. My A&P was concerned about owner repairs of this magnitude performed under supervision of a mechanic. Repairs included rebuilding a wing and welding the fuselage by the owner.

Have your mechanic look at the repairs, but as a mechanic who has supervised the work of others on projects I would have no issue with it. There are some people who don't have aircraft mechanics certificate who do absolutely beautiful, meticulous work. On the flip side there are mechanics who do shameful work.

Looks like the rear seat is facing aft, its been awhile since i restored an L-2M, but I think the rear seat is supposed to be bolted facing forward, also it looks like the diagonal strips that go behind the fuel gage hose is located in front of the hose, no deal breakers, just something to look into, gary

I think it has been signed off several times since the repairs, but I was looking for something else in the CFR's and noticed this:
                      gary

                        Steve,
I have bee out of the loop, but I just looked a the two L-2s on Dropbox.
Go with Gary's comments! (LostNSpace) he knows a bunch about L-2s.
Technically, the last IA that signed off the plane bought off on the owner repairs, but sometimes that little detail is lost in the shuffle and the last IA may not have looked too closely at repairs... Not a deal breaker, but a caution.
Both planes looked nice. The logbooks were not on Dropbox.
I'm 90% sure the aft seat must be fixed facing forward like Gary said.
                        Best Regards,
                        Mark Julicher
