Does anyone have a 337 to install a Kolpin Gun boot on an airplane? I am thinking of adding some utility to my '41. Tim

Little misspelling error, Hank. Probably a question for the Alaska folks. A KOLPIN Gun Boot. Like this I believe: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kolpin-Gun-B...RW1Hj1&vxp=mtr

I looked at a bunch of rifles I could carry in my "T". The one that seemed to fit easiest was the Ruger 10/22 Takedown. It is only a 22, but is a nice little rifle. Not much good if a bear is after you (except maybe to kneecap whoever is with you) but good for getting small game. Thee is also a simi-hard case for it that also fits the luggage sling.

Not sure what happened there, the photo is cropped and you can't see the rifle broken down under the case.

Not a 337 but considered Minor Alteration here: https://www.faa.gov/documentLibrary/...N_8900.272.pdf

Not sure the Lower 48 are ready for reasonable mods yet give the media hysteria regarding firearms.

                Hank,

The little AR-7 is similar to the Ruger, just smaller and its own case. Still a .22 but we don't have many bears in Illinois.

                Gary,

Our airport signage doesn't allow firearms on the field. At least 'officially'.
                Cheers,

                  Re: Gun boot

Actually it would be convenient to have an external gear storage pod or gun case or two on the struts providing it didn't compromise speed and lift. I suspect the Kolpin-style is sometimes an "I'm a hunter" sign and are seen frequently during seasons. Stuff the Cub and then no room or handy access for the firearm makes them popular. Few hunts allow same day airborne and require a quick shot...Black Bear in some Game units are the exception. Maybe wolves too but haven't kept track lately.

I prefer a shoulder holster and handgun with empty chamber (Glock 20) if going camping. That way if any firearm is required it's with me. Otherwise a Win 94 in a case is plenty for the plane when hunting anything I'd care to shoot, clean, and eat.

                    Re: Gun boot

Right now I am actually looking at either a 4-10 shotgun or a hand gun that can chamber 4-10 shells. We are trying to get some property to build a runway on with some hangars and the area is REALLY BAD for snakes. Haven't seen any (yet) but when we start clearing I have been told they will be pretty bad. Mostly Copperheads and Cotton mouth with potentially a few Eastern Diamondbacks. I want something I can hit one with when my aim could be just a bit distracted. A "Judge" with snake shot sounds pretty good. I doubt the 10/22 would be much good unless the noise would scare them!

Depends upon what you have on-hand for a revolver, Hank. There are shot-shells made for just about everything nowadays.

Snakes. Forgot about them. Haven't seen one in almost 55 years. Yea a revolver and shot shells would do it but so did moving to Alaska.

Wonder why Tim wants to approve a gun boot? Must be serious stuff as he posted on Supercub. Tie it on-go fly-take it off.

If planes will fly with rifles and shotguns mounted for predator control they'll fly with a Kolpin or two. Pics and talk: http://www.supercub.org/forum/showth...n-wolf-hunting

Not counting Bush Pilots but has anyone shot a gun from an aeroplane? I heard of a guy did many years ago from his Volksplane.
He had a little 25 auto Raven pistol and fired one shot into a wood area. He said say that was a waste. So he flew over a pond
first to check to see if anyone was around then he shot again and now he could see where the bullets hit.

                            Re: Gun boot

Had a friend with a VP-2 who mounted a sling shot and a bag of ball bearings by the cockpit (it was a joke, OK?) He took it to AirVenture like that and mounted a HUGE wood prop on the front for display (machined a prop hub just so he could hang it on a VW engine). That prop must have been 10' in diameter and really pretty wood. He said it was an old blimp prop. He also made a "board" up explaining the VP-2 was a "North Carolina AG Plane" and the big prop allowed him to launch directly from three oil drums (for prop clearance). I think he had 5 or 6 cans of "RAID" duct taped to the bottom of the wing too. Told people he had to land dead stick so he didn't get a prop strike and used the sling shot to take out "field varmits".
He won the dead grass award that year. The guy was a real character! He lives on a private Air Park in North Carolina now and I have lost track of his contact info. If anyone knows "Crazy" Bob Querry let him know I have been looking for him since he retired. I still have his pushrod clamp tool!

The reason Tim wants a gun boot is so when customers see the gun-boot, they'll think twice before giving him crap about his annual inspections ;-)
