The stability under bungee load and safety features are what local mechanics have noted. Apparently it's not uncommon to have other models behave badly and cause unexpected problems when used.

Another local useful tool that gets borrowed is a bungee remover. I posted this previously but basically it's a single shaft car jack that uses an internal screw to move a side arm on the jack (raises the car from a side mount on the car). A crank handle on top turns the screw. The builder put a bottom pin to insert into the Taylorcraft truss, and welded a chain attached between the moveable arm and the edge a grooved pulley rim curve up that fits the diameter of the bungee cord. The partial pulley rim is inserted under a bungee on one side and the jack extended which lifts the pulley and bungee off the truss mount.

The pull chain is welded to the jack arm close to the jack to minimize tipping sideways. Still it needs to be tightly held. It can be used to install bungees, but it takes a few landings to center them on their supports.

Saves the bungees when installing and removing floats.

I had two calls this week about them maybe I need to get in gear and make a batch. I am covering a 7AC left wing and that is a time pit for the next few days but next week may be a time to make a supply of tools.

same place dave got the general idea from the Taylorcraft original tool they sold back in the 1940's.

Almost Chuck, my innovation on it was a safety feature that was not on the tools prior to the ones that I make.

Wag copied that feature. Its annoying but that's life and having made something like 200-300 in a 19 year period hardly makes it worth patents.

I fortunately bought one of Dave's tools. Works good. I unfortunately didn't cable a $ donation can to it when loaned out. It gets passed around locally but somehow finds its way home in time for my use. I wrote my name and phone # on the side so maybe that's why it returns.

I know there are many threads regarding the topic of landing gear bungees and how to replace them, etc. Today I had the pleasure to speak with David Rude that has previously manufactured a useful and safety enhanced tool. Dave seemed like a great guy and very knowledgeable. Unfortunately, he does not have any of the tools available and does not anticipate producing more for several months. He suggested I reach out to the group to see if anyone within a reasonable distance of Rochester, NY may have purchased one from him that I could borrow/rent or purchase if you know longer have a need for it?
