  • 8.33 radios

The whole of EASA-land (apart from me and other non-radio aircraft) is being forced to 8.33kHz radios by 1 January 2018, even for day VFR.

What is the situation in the US by comparison?

The European Avionics industry is awash with customers money from this. With the USD/GBP exchange rate, if you have a non-Taylorcraft: buy an 8.33 radio from Europe!)

No problem at uncontrolled airports. There are some airports where I don't feel comfortable without a radio such as my local airport where there are too many non standard operations.

You will have to investigate each brand. But, I know some of the more modern Garmin radios will do either spacing.

That's right, Ray (I'm sure if you purchase a new radio now in the US, it will be 8.33 capable) My original question was about any mandatory implementation for VFR flight.

I think that the only 8.33 things in the USA that are in service or required to comply are test stations.

Here, aircraft are not required to be equipped with radios for VFR flight.

The airspace requirements dictate aircraft capabilities requirements. No push for 8.33 spacing use here.

Thanks Rob, A friend came across the Pic of you and I in your taylorcraft in I think 2002 or 03. Dave Bland who you flew when I went with Andy, retired last year said in all his years at UPS that was his best layover. Party my place June 24th (40KY) you are always welcome anytime.
                Cheers,
                Fred

Fred: if you're still in contact with Dave, please give him my best regards. We have about 600 hours on that Taylorcraft since it was completed.
