  • Instrument Panel Finish

    Hi All
What's the consensus on instrument panel finish (May 46 BC12D)?

Mine was black crinkle finish before I stripped it. Was that the factory standard?
    thanks

    Re: Instrument Panel Finish

I think the black crinkle was pretty standard for most. Some of the early cheap airplanes were painted the same color as the interior. They would shellac some paper on the backside to cover the instruments and then remove the paper after painting. The 1941 deluxes had wood grained insets and coordinated paint on the outer portions.

The three panels I have all had the metallic blue painted on them that basic model BC12Ds were painted. Mine is a March 46 airplane. The other panels no idea of course. The glove box doors and the fuselage tubes all had that blue paint.

Interesting... my instrument panel was one of the few places I didn't find traces of that blue!
