They are used to get out of the boundry air and provide enough pressure to empty the tank in a cub since the wing tanks in a cub are the primary supply. Tim

The Harer STC shows a mod for the stock cap but who has the time these days? They were on the plane so I assume the STC installer bought them in cheaper times. I wonder if a proper vented regular cap like Univair sells for Cubs would suffice on non-85 engines?

Edit: The icing potential is real as is the chance for plugging while parked. Wet impact from snow like we have in the Fall...mixed precip at +- freezing temps...is the worse. But I did have a C-185 freeze one wing vent at 13.5K at -10F in supercooled cloud over the Brooks range (maybe that's why they give you two). Citabria and Cessna put the vents behind structures to delay the process but it's only a delay.

Edit: Spoken for: I still have the original front tank wire and cork gauge and cap that's being unused as there's a F-19 dial gauge previously installed on my header. If somebody needs one let me know.

I prefer the tern plate, its easy to repair vs. the aluminum.

True, it is easier to repair, but it is also more likely to need repair. At least that is how I see it.

Tim, I am aware of why they need to be raised, but surely not on a Taylorcraft. Unless in the Harer STC fuel is drawn from the wing tanks instead of the main. I was thinking a set of normal wing tank caps/pressure vents would be sufficient???
