Mine was in rough shape, lots of bondo over half-assed repairs. Not just sticker shock ( $1450 Canadian Dollars!) caused me to repair it instead of replace it.
The part is made from very soft aluminium which is ok if you have the original configuration of no air filter. To allow for an air filter the nose cowl cutting pretty much destroys any structural integrity and the question is when, not if, the cowl will crack above the filter. Given I decided to keep the air filter, even if I had bought new, I still would have fabricated a doubler to reinforce the area around and above the air filter. The doubler I made from 2024T3 and picks up the two lower camlock springs for the lower cowling.
The fact that it is very soft material means that it can be straightened effectively. I spent a few hours, some on my little English wheel but mostly with a nylon hammer. It's not perfect but it's certainly much less likely to crack than a new off the shelf replacement.
