What works for me is to think of it as a bunch of "little jobs". When that particular "little job" is done, you will get a terrific sense of accomplishment and add fuel to go to the next "little job". Hang in there, you are preserving a part of aviation history.

    encouragement appreciated, thanks Mike

I'm hoping to get the topcoat on some parts including the fuselage in the next few days. If all goes well that should feel like a step forward.

      Re: Progress update

We oiled a fuselage by using an "IV" drip consisting of a funnel, a plastic tube and an inflation needle for a soccer ball.

Boiled Linseed Oil is certainly not the same as Polyfiber's Tubeseal!! If you think it is, take a drop of each and place it on a flat place then come back tomorrow.... the Tubeseal will have crawled all over the place!! I've never found anything that works as well!! Great stuff and well worth the extra cost. It doesn't take much, and the formula for how much per tube is right on the can. With that, you don't have to mess with draining it back out as you don't use so much.

I hear you John, but the Brits back in the 50's thought they knew best (after all, what's been good for the last 200 years is good for the next 200, right? )

You only have to read Chet Peek's "Taylorcraft Story" and see how the Brits created the Auster from the Taylorcraft to see how backward-looking we were back then (hopefully we're a bit better now).

At that time, the Brits also designed the spitfire and the mosquito! Not so backward. Thought of to be two of the best even today. They also have , by far the best looking Air Force emblem, far better than our ugly one. Theirs incorporates the Latin " through adversity to the stars." Magnificent. Jeffery quill flew every model spitfire made as a test pilot and wrung them out. Great book to read. (And I haven't even mentioned Bletchley park!)

Thanks for the input. That really helps. I did plan on emptying it out.

              Happy New Year,

                Scott,
Can you tell me the thickness of the door skin that you used to reskin the doors. Both of mine need to be reskinned and I loved your idea of how to do itl
                Beautiful workmanship.

                Thanks,

Great idea on the syringe. My mom has horses and the T-craft is in my dad's shop.
Catheter wouldn't work for me either.

                  Thanks,

                    Hi Bruce
                    thanks!
I used 2024T3 .032" If I'd had enough .025" I might have used that although I think it would have to be dimpled. The original skin seemed to be thicker than 025 but less than 032 and it was much softer material. Anyway I'm pleased with the result
