    I will have to say that what Tim says appeared to be the situation that I saw when I took the pulleys off. As a matter of fact it may have been that the bushings were locked in place because the cross bolt was cinched down pretty tight. For sure that would not be desirable.

    Rob it is good to hear that someone came to the same conclusion on the function of the bushings. I will for sure remove them again before long and check what is rotating and what isn't.

    This plane was a bit of a clunker that had a lot of things wrong with it when I got it, as I have mentioned here several times, but it performs real well with the exception of top speed that seems to be lower than most 85's, and I have continued to correct things as I go along with the emphasis on safe function.

      Your top speed is likely from 2-3 things, prop is the wrong pitch/diameter, low engine power or rigging problems. I would get the prop checked first, most prop shops can measure the pitch and address any coning for about $250~400, rigging is just drag, engine is a different matter. Tim

        On this plane it is drag and weight. It is dirty and heavy.

          Mine weights 900 empty...no farings and I still could cruise at 106 kias @ 2500 msl

            Checked my notes and I am getting 88 statute gps at 2150 and 94 statute gps at 2300. This is at 2500 altitude and done in three directions several times.

            Indicated is off about 8 high at top likely because of the static sensor located in the wing. No IAS error at stall speed but gets worse in proportion with higher readings.

            Empty weight is also about 900. I do have 800 tires and no strut fairings. Truthfully it isn't very important to me as I don't do long distance flights with it these days. It just always strikes me as being peculiar that I hear all of these big numbers being bandied around and none of the three BC12D's that I have owned were/are that fast when carefully checked with a GPS.
