    Hello all
    Progress update on CF-CLR: http://c-fclr.blogspot.ca/

Updates are in the Fuselage and Tail Feathers Sections. Received today the last of the parts needed for the Fuselage prior to recovering so hope to get that underway soon.

    Comments, critique, questions welcome.

    Hi Scott,

What method did you use to clean the fuselage and metal parts?

    Bead blast? Something else?

    It looks very nice.

Much more polished than mine comes out.

Looks good. A lot of work.

I am at about the same stage with an Aeronca Champ. Getting too cold for me here in North Carolina. Will be colder in Ontario.

I guess I need to make a tent in my shop to spray in during the cold.

80 grit aluminium oxide is what I've used on most parts. I used soda for the engine internals, carb and softer materials. The fuselage I actually did in 1990 and this Spring cleaned it with Scotch Brite and lacquer thinner to remove the red oxide I spray-bombed to protect it while stored. I used Sherwin Williams epoxy primer, it's pricey but seems to me to be a superior product. I vary the amount of reducer depending on what I'm painting. Steel parts that won't be top-coated get less reducer.

My "spray booth" is actually a steel frame canopy we used to store our camper. I attached it to the hangar wall, which closed in the far end, and built doors and the tarp wall for the other end. Lots of florescent lights and the ability to heat it without heating the whole hangar means I do most of my work in there.

I use the SW primer also. About $115 per gallon for me.

I like it cause it's white (well I get white).

I only add hardener, never tried reducer. What do you use for that?

There is a specific reducer from SW. The number I have in my notes is CMO702901

Scott, would I be thinking that you are under the Canadian Owner-Maintenance system?

                  Hi Rob
No the aircraft has/will have a CofA. I am an AME ie authorized to sign for the work Subject to the usual limitations. Private aircraft in Canada can be operated with a C of A (meet bilateral standards with the US) or as owner maintained, but once you go there there's no going back.

Both my 172 and the Tcraft are maintained in accordance with "acceptable data" much of which is the same as the US eg manufactures' manuals, AC 43-13, plus Transport Canada rules and regulations.
