I was talking to an engineer at work yesterday, we were talking about projects and I found a complete J5 for an affordable price. He was talking about how expensive it will be to replace all of the bolts because they were more than 20 years old. He then continued with replacing the fuel lines because they were so old....not because they were copper...and it went on and on...and how the engine was junk and needed a Lycoming because the continental was too old....only an aeronautical engineer would come up with taking a perfectly airworthy airplane and replacing it with new parts...Tim

Re: Almost fell out of my chair
My favorite was when he said the original A-80 need a complete rebuild because it had been sitting....no inspection and run it, just rebuild....oh wait, he thought that a o-320 would be a better option...of course he bought a brand NEW Lycoming for his RV...N29787

Re: Almost fell out of my chair
Oh he would pass out if he watched my friends take a lead hammer to straightened a Cessna 180 crank with a lead hammer to get the flange within spec after a prop strike! That made me cringe too but they flew it 1500 more hours....and its still flying.N29787

Re: Almost fell out of my chair
Mess with them and ask what the Mil-spec is for testing plugs and if they are complying with it.....That will drive them nuts for days considering not many mechanics have used it since the 1960's when the military stopped using large numbers of piston aircraft. TimN29787
