Re: fabric around the rudder horn?
When you come to a spot like that I like to just make a single slice with the pinking shears, the fabric will then be tight against the (in this case) horn.
Don't over shrink it till you get the dollie's-doyle's on, they cover a lot of little imperfections46 BC-12D Taylorcraft

Re: fabric around the rudder horn?
Hey Mike.
I think you did OK there. It is not an easy thing to work a large piece of fabric arroud a horn of hindge.
Fabric is my day job and I do exactly what you have done there, but after I put all the rib and perimeter tapes on (witch will cover a large section of that area anyway) I cut a piece of fabric about 2" by 3" that has v\been pre doped to stop it fraying when cut and simply dope it over the affected area.
Works great and looks good aswell.
I do this technique over any things "sticking out" of the fabric eg. horns, hindges lift strut tangs.
Hope it helps, I will see if I have a pic of it.

Kinda looks like you cut a notch out of the fabric to fit around horn....or maybe it tore when shrinking.
I just make a single cut with shears whenever possible & let the fabric ride up on the obstacle (in this case the horn)
I know, I know, not good with descriptions!!46 BC-12D Taylorcraft

Re: fabric around the rudder horn?
I know exactly what Senior means, because I've done the same myself.
Mike: when you come to do a finishing tape over that area, instead of cutting a piece out of the tape, make a single cut. If you are using a rotary "florian" pinking shear, you have to back up the rotating cutter with your fingers to release it from the end of the cut.
The pinked edges of the cut will form around the horn and you should be able to seal them against the flat surfaces of the horn with a warm iron.
The images below gives the kind of idea. Hope that helps,
Rob
