Just seeing if anyone has any input. My 121.5 has failed to pass inspection so thought rather than spend the money to fix it I should just take this opportunity to get a 406.

Been looking online a little and found that to be not very helpful. I don't want to spend anymore than I have to and still get a maintenance free reliable unit.

Cheapest seems to be the ACK E-04 and the Ameri-King AK-451-2D. My IA/AP did not have much input other than to say that he has seen a number of problems with the Ameri-King.

I am guessing that some of you probably have some good input.

I just bought the EBC 406, Its bigger than the ebc102 so if you are tight for space take that into consideration....Mine is in the baggage and does not need the remote...Tim

        Re: 406 elt

        I have an AK-451-2 in my 172
Just re certified 4th year with no problems
It was the least expensive unit on the market when I bought it
Installation was ok, complicated a little because it would not fit in the Original Cessna location so had to fabricate a new mount on the shelf under the extended baggage area. (mention this because size in this case, is important). It is nessesary to run the supplied harness to the instrument panel where you must install the remote indicator/set/reset unit (but I think you have to do this with all the 406 ELTs

If you are interested I have a Narco ELT 10 121.5 ELT with antenna and mount. Been on the shelf for a long time so needs a new battery and shop rectification but it does work.

I just installed an ACK in a T210 and it was a breeze.
1940 BC-65 that needs minor work...
