  • Taylorcraft in AK...What is it?

Any of you Alaska guys recognize this one? Amos "found" it in a backyard in Talkeetna. For some reason it looks "big" to me.

I think the paint job on the door and the long rear glass makes it appear to look that way. I am not familiar with that style of rear glass.

Those are patrol doors put into a sheet metal door. The plastic has just yellowed. The rear "D" window is an enlarged one from a late model with a big baggage compartment. It has a non standard exhaust I can't remember from where, that required the bulge on the lower cowl so I would expect it has a big engine, not a 65. She also has ski braces on the gear and plug cover blisters for the top plugs that may or may not have been needed with the current engine, but are common when shielded ignition is added. I can't tell what is hanging from the bottom of the fuselage aft of the gear on the longeron, but it looks like it could be float fittings, that and the big tires would make sense.
All in all, looks like a pretty typical Alaska plane. ;-)

I can't place who owns it, but it looks like a 46 or newer T-craft, where did that picture come from ?

            Larry,

A friend of my son(Amos Cushway/Anchorage C-140) took the pic somewhere in Talkeetna, in a backyard. I can get more details if you want?

Hank, the lower "bulge" would most likely be for Cessna 150 exhaust. Great system and more heat.

Actually that is my 1946 bc12d with a 85hp. Curious who and why someone was in my backyard?

The wings apart and having the spars inspected this morning. Would like to know who took the picture, since we are not on the main road. Thanks

Who is Amos? What was Amos doing in my back yard?

Hey, so what is the status, tell us more about it...Tim

Maybe your wife invited him back to take a pic, or telephoto lens?

Well it hasn't flown for ten yrs, it was my wife's plane. We're starting the rebuilding process. Two spars failed inspection this morning, thus will be ordering spar blanks and rebuilding the wings this fall. Thinking of going with Stewerts system, but not totally sure yet.
