  • Removing Headliner from F21

What type of set screw in the trim handle, can it be flat? Mine does not look to have an Allen set screw but wont come off. I am trying to get the headliner out to get to the nav/com antenna. It's on a 1982 F21.

The earlier ones didn't have a screw of any kind. They used a pin that was retained by the Escutcheon plate. Same as most car window winders.

The trim handle on my F-21 is just held on with a cotter pin. I don't know what the original method was.

Well that sure does look like a screw, but I don't think any of the commercial screw extractors available will let you get into that area unless you use a flexible cable type like on a dremel tool .

Well thanks for the help. It did have a roll pin above the handle and no set screw or nut (see pic). I love how a round shaft goes into a square hole

That sure looks familiar! Just what happens when someone thinks you have to make sure the pin doesn't come out. If it has the right escutcheon plate (one with an inside flange) and pin it can all come apart without tools and WON'T fall apart on its own. You just need to push the plate up against the headliner until you can use a paperclip to push out the pin (which will immediately fall on the floor and roll under the floorboards). When it is put together right is is the virtual definition of simplicity.
