Re: DUAL BRAKES and Philanthropy collide!

Tim Ruppert cast a replacement pedal for the original pedal it had a larger pedal for your heal to push on and was cast with serations so it was non slip was a bolt in to the original. I have seen one set in a plane some were at a flyin. Very rare.

The cast aluminum pedals I have wouldn't work in a Cessna or Bonanza cause they are heel brakes just like what is found in a Taylorcraft, the tcraft these first two are in, has been in the family since 1949 or '50, so if they really were replacement pedals, they would have gone in the plane when it was very new, thanks for the info cvavon, gary

I just wonder if we are going to weld or bolt them in. Saw pix of the bolt in part from talylorcraft. would be a nice thing if you did not want to take the plane apart to weld it in the part.

I bolted mine on and they work great. When I remember how to post a picture (soon I hope) I will post it.

I installed mine so I could instruct in the T. I re-activated my CFI CFII and Multi CFI with the local FAA inspector. I managed not to crash so he passed me. Since then I have almost 100hrs on my BC12-D . As most T-craft pilots will tell you the brakes are really there to do a run-up and unlock the tail wheel (mine is a Lang). If you need it to stop you are probably in too short a field or landed long. The fist annual with 80+ hours on the plane and at least 100 take offs and landings (old guys like me need lots of practice) the linings were barely worn.

My own personal preference is not to have real effective brakes for training. I do not allow any student to even think about using them in a landing. This of course is just my opinion and am sure many will disagree.

WHERE did you get yours? I'm looking for a set for my bird that I use for flight training.

BTW, I think my dad has factory drawings for the dual brake set up. He installed a kit that was purchased from Dorothy Ferris to install in his 1941.
I'm looking for dual brake plans for '46 BC12-D. I'd be pleased to make a contribution if that plan ever got off the ground. Lee

Re: DUAL BRAKES and Philanthropy collide!

My 45 has dual brakes and the fuselage is wide open for restoration. Anyone who wants to take dimensions to make weld in (like mine) or bolt in kits is welcome. I still think a lock system should be easy to do to lock out the RH pedals to prevent a passenger "incident" and I LOVE the idea of larger pedals! Those tiny ones are really hard to use till you get used to them.
I used to do some aluminum casting years ago and making sand cast molds is NOT that hard.

A standard conversion for hydraulic brakes would be great too. The cables are a pain to keep rigged.

Well its easy to do and keep your heel brakes...and have hydraulic brakes
I wanted toe brakes and therefore I have them now.

That's what I liked about the Bonanza, throw over yoke & pinch 2 tabs & the right side pedals went to the floor so no yoke or pedals for the passenger to have to avoid.
