  • Taylorcraft Owners Club

    Hello,
I just got an email from the folks that have had the TOClub for a while that it had been returned to Steve and Sharon Krog. Don't know any background on this.

When Bruce Bixler (dearly departed, bless his cotton socks) ran it, it was a wonderful club.

I have the newsletters from Bruce Bixler for quite a few years. Is it worth scanning them into a set of .pdf files?

      Any thoughts?

        Dave,

Hank and I talked about this awhile back with no further movement on it. Copyright issues could be the problem unless all involved would say it is ok to do so. Otherwise, I think it is a great idea, there is a lot of good information in the newsletters, at least the older ones from Bruce Bixler.
        Cheers,
        Marty

I agree with Robert Lees. My dad was a TOC member when I was young and I learned a lot from those newsletters. In 2006 when I bought my Taylorcraft from Lee Eyler, he gave me a large 3-ring binder with about 20+ years of those newsletters. So I have a lot of them. I refer to them often.

About copying them or scanning them to share publicly, I think that would be a violation of the copyright. Evidently, the TOC as an entity and all of the paid dues were sold by Bruce Bixler to Steve and Sharon Krog and then sold again recently to Paul and Dana Omanski. So I assume they are now the rightful owners of all past newsletter information and might have an issue with sharing the data publicly.

            Re: Taylorcraft Owners Club

OK, slight tangent to the other discussion. I HAVE looked into the old newsletters and there ARE copyright problems. SOME of the newsletters are protected, some are openly available. We need to finish sorting them out. Some of the protected ones we can get permission to distribute, some we can't, but the people who have the rights to the protected ones were willing to provide them (there will need to be some negotiations done but it doesn't look un-doable). We will be using the collection I have as a start and asking members to help provide missing pages I haven't been able to get yet (or replacements for some that aren't in the best shape). There are a few holes in the set, but I have a pretty good pile here, I just need to confirm which ones I can scan and post and which ones will have to be bought as back copies (I have MANY that can't be open released). It's complex, but it is happening. I have been working on it when I can, but I would REALLY like to get my plane back in the air too.

If it ever stops SNOWING I hope to get my annual done! I am SOOOOO close!

Hank, I also have a good number of the new letters from the early 80's.

Can you make it stop snowing? I just need some time to get-er-done with my IA on the annual. Stupid weather has EVERYONE backed up.

Ditto on the e-mail. Dana and Paul Osman seemed so enthusiastic and were nice to talk to about their taking over the news letter. I wander what took place. I met Steve Krog at Oshkosh, and he seems real nice, so I hope everything goes well.

Hank, my advice is to tough it out, spring is just around the corner and I hope it comes early this year. Otherwise, move your project to the Bahamas, I don't think they've had much snow down there this winter.

WOW!! Larry. I just got that email too. Now I see what you are saying. Total surprise to me. Things in Taylorcraft land are unsettled as of late.

OK Hank, what was it the ground hog rodent had to say, 6 more weeks of winter or was it only 6 more weeks till spring? About the middle of March give or take and there is sometimes that late storm that sneaks in. Yup it is a science, kind of.

Here is the letter mentioned by Larry Wheelock to start this thread. Obviously some bumps in the road for TOC happening. The letter went out yesterday to all TOC members (and Cub club and Luscombe club members too.)
