      Re: patroll doors

Hey Chuck.... Great addition. I'm looking for a set of fabric doors to covert them to patrol. Can you post some pictures from the inside, on how you attached the plexi to the door frames. thanks

Does anyone have a set of fabric doors to part out. I say fabric doors because that's what I currently have and it looks like a pretty straight forward project to replace the fabric with plexiglass. Thanks

        Re: patroll doors

The tub doors or fabric are made with a flat front my doors had aluminum on them with pop rivets so all i did was drill out the pop rivets and replace them with number 10/ 1/2 in PK screws and screwed the plastic on. Also clear silicone between the door and plastic to seal the gap.and the pictures don't lie. also the view out is much improved to the side and front just siting in the seat. THANKS MARTY YOUR COMMENT WAS GOOD FOR A LAUGH Have a great Christmas my friend Chuck.

InThe picture there are a lot more holes then the number of screws that i put in but it makes the door lighter,I did weigh it they weigh 6 lbs assembled as in photo.

Gee, I thought the doors in the picture were just from the old stock at Duane Cole's old airport.

                Chuck:
Thanks for the pictures and know how.

Does anyone have a set of spare doors?

I have seen a few on Ebay, but they looked pretty "long on the tooth"...

                  Re: patroll doors

Somebody just posted they had a bunch of doors within the last week, I think. I will look.

Also, the below was a suggestion over on FB after Chuck posted about this.

I think I would have used acrylic plexiglass. Lexan scratches easily, crazes after a few years, and is not chemical resistant (gets foggy if gas gets on it). The good news is it won't crack.

Thanks, Tim. I looked everywhere and could not find your picture or where you posted it.

As a side note, do any of those have tilting or sliding windows?
                        Cheers,

Tim: are there any post-war with the tilt window, that are in good condition ? thanks
This could be a winter project.

                            Re: patroll doors

The top door in the picture is like Chuck's and mine (it's match looks like it is in the pile a little lower). The nice thing about tube doors is they are easy to fix if you can do a little (even low quality) welding. The bad news is they are slightly different shape than the sheet metal doors and may not fit your plane. You might want to ask if he will hold them for you till he gets a butcher paper tracing of your door to see if it will fit your plane.

Thanks Hank...The current doors are tube & fabric, so I can easily trace them and send them over for sizing.
It looks like the door under the black corrugated under drain pipe may be a candidate....
