  • Anyone Near Porterville, CA? Save a desperate Taylorcraft

Guys, I popped back in here to make sure the CA Taylorcraft contingent knew about this. Accept my apologies if this is already being handled.

Harry Dellicker at Del-Air in Porterville has passed away. He was an icon in local aviation circles, but he had done something really crappy from our point of view. Harry had taken ownership of a T-craft in exchange for some debt, or as an IOU, and he let the airplane nearly disintegrate into the ground on a tiedown at Porterville over a long period.

Many people, including me, had asked him to sell it or donate it, to no avail.

Now that he is gone, can someone PLEASE go get that airplane and save it, or use it for parts, or manage to do something? That airplane has sat there dying for many years, and it deserves to be saved.

Someone go negotiate with the family, or the estate, or just f***ing put it on a trailer and steal it. I would, but I'm up to my arse in projects, my 172 is up on blocks in my hangar, and I recently found out I will be unemployed.

Can you guys in the Central Valley get together and do something? This is a travesty and it would be a triumph of good over evil to save that airplane.

Sorry for sticking my nose back in like this after all this time...

Hey Bill, always good to hear from you. Too bad that T-Craft is returning to the earth. Hope someone can 'obtain' it.
    Cheers,

Bill, you NEVER have to apologize for chiming in here. It has been too long and we missed you.
Can anyone post more info on this aircraft? Photos? Data? Anything?

The plane under his name in the FAA registry is N29690, SN 2534. It is a BC12-65 and the expiration date is 01/31/2014. Could be a nice pre-war for restoration or the basis for bringing Josh's plane back to life.

I talked to Harry about the Taylorcraft once, probably 20 years ago. Naturally she was not as rough then as now but still rough. His asking price was based on the value of the work he had done which was way more than the value of the Taylorcraft. Thats probably why the owners never came back for it and why its just set letting the elements take there course. I believe the owners were from the San Jose area. I won't haul it away without family approval but will check with a long time pilot cfi there to see if he can find out what the family intends to do with the Taylorcraft. Its hard to say what might be useable but there could be a lot of patterns there.

Several years ago I was delivering a CubCrafters Sport Cub to Atlanta from Yakima and they wanted me to go to Deer Valley near Phoenix, AZ, and I stopped into Porterville for the night and saw that Taylorcraft, took several pictures, I had never seen the fabric rotted off both top and bottom of the wing like that, the front spar was exposed and totally rotted, I will look around and see if I can find any of those pictures, gary
