aileron hinge brackets BC12D

Hey guys. Still looking for a new set of aileron hinge brackets. The ones that bolt to the aileron. Found some at parts taylorcraft .com but the site seems to be out dated, Their part number is A871. Been looking online for 2 years with no luck. Being this is a wear item you would think someone would be producing them new. Any leads appreciated. Thanks Murray

Its not the wear part, the hinge bushing is. If this part wears there is another problem causing it.

Do you really need new? Or is used serviceable ok?

Hi Murray,

There is no Taylorcraft Factory, taylorcraft.com, and no one is producing new. You will have to find some old ones, or NOS, but that would be like winning the lottery.

i wish someone would remove that site so folks wouldn't think there are new parts being produced, except for Wag, etc.

There are people at the Taylorcraft.com web site-but they will take about 2 weeks to answer anything and then only if they want to. Last year I sent a email to them asking about the website and it took that long to get an answer.

Murray can you take some photos of the part that you need so we are all on the same page as to what you are looking for then i think some one on here will know were to get what you need

The bigger problem is getting the correct hinge pin with the knurling to stop the rotation in the aileron bracket. To often they are just replaced with a standard AN pin. I agree a source for the bkackets would be nice. I have seen som with pretty good wear too.

When ypu install the pin make sure that you have either a washer on the cotter pin end or spread the bracket a tiny bit so that the result is a slight pressure against the cotter pin.

This helps keep the pin in place.

Also put some Loctite or other locking compund under the head and for that matter on the cotter pin end also.

Making sure that the brackets are shimmed properly and that the hinge line is acctually one straight line and not a wiggly one will help too.

You don't want the pins binding because your hinge line is screwed up. Take any one pin out and see what happens and you will be able to tell.

My friend David N manufactured new aileron brackets for me...and a jig to press them and drill them accurately.

A spot-welded piece on one side will prevent rotation of the pin in service, certified on Austers, so surely good enough for our lowly Taylorcraft.







I'm sure an engineer local to you could work out how these brackets are made...

If not, David would I'm sure be happy to make a few more, say a batch of 100 at $100 a piece, hinge pin included.

The aircraft owner would have to make some input to comply with US Owner Produced Parts regs.

Hey guys. Thanks for all the replys. Some great advice from all. It seems that my hinges didnt have the knurled pins so they have worn into the bracket some 30 thou hence needing replacement. Some great pics posted by Robert. Thanks Robert for the offer of 100 at 100 dollars each but a wee bit rich for a poor canadian aviator. It looks like im going to have to build a set myself. I shall use the money I save to buy a roll of TUMS to keep in my lowly 160 hp Taylorcraft . One never knows when they might be out flying and come across an Auster close to LUNCH !!!

You can tighten up your worn brackets with a torch or a prick punch . Those new ones are great and do not need the knurled pins which are real scare. I hoard all that here in the back room (
