    Re: Craigslist find L2

Looks like a B model cowl and and M model instrument panel. Maybe Mike R. can join in and comment. Can't see if it had spoilers. I don't see the handle for them. Non standard instruments here and there.
    Cheers,
    Marty

Looks like they are/were asking 22k for it.

I don't think with a price tag of 22k people will be tripping over themselves to purchase it.

Not sure what shape it is in, but 22 for a 'warbird' is a steal. They can be twice or more the value of a plain-jane BC-12. My former L-2, back in 2006 was around $40 grand. Authenticity plays a big part. I have seen too many with incorrect additions that, to me, would hurt the value. They made less than 500 L-2's, if my memory serves me correctly.
            Cheers,
            Marty

Really? I didn't think a project plane would get that much. Just goes to show you I don't know much at all about L2's. So if it is all there and good shape it would be a good deal.

When I find anything Taylorcraft on craigslist most the time I post it on here just in case someone might be interested. I have received so much valuable information from here that I sometimes feel guilty. So if I can help someone out by posting a lead it makes me feel better. : )

                Re: Craigslist find L2

I like it when people find stuff like this and post it. I don't see that plane being that big of a project, (without seeing it, of course). I have seen some of my friend's projects, current one a 1929 Fleet Model 9. Lots and lots and lots of parts. That is definitely a project.

Just looking at the pictures of the cockpit it has a lot of the stuff that, for me, was difficult to find. Unfortunately, I don't think everything there is right for the model. I would have to do some checking on the serial number to determine if it is an A, B or M. Several people on here would know.

Oh, and my plane was a flyer, not a project. Just needed some additional authenticity added here and there.

                  Re: Craigslist find L2

Marty, if your L2 was any where close to the condition of your BC12 D it must of been a really nice one. My wife and I really liked the "red t-craft" at the Alliance fly in we went to a few years ago.

I attached a pic of your Taylorcraft and that is my wife talking to you and your wife. You were going to give my son a ride but someone else beat you to it. It was his first time.

                    Re: Craigslist find L2

Thank you for posting. There MAY be some ONE out there willing to pay 22k for an airplane that is slower than a BC12 D (sorry but read SLOW) but as Marty said carries the "low production rare" value with it. Considering the costs for restoration bla bla bla its not a deal or any deal from that perspective, that said anything is worth what someone is willing to pay. Period . Dot. Hope it finds its way to some wealthy sort that restores it for another 25K (probably a bit more) and then sells it for 30 K which in my humble opinion is about close to todays recesssion battered pricing for any really really nice L-2 will sell for within 90 days if one is lucky. Again just my opinion of what a buyer might pay today. Not full of emotion and dont request flames from the "I have one and I paid (or sold one for 55k or whatever......) Reality in todays market for a seller that wants to actually sell. Really do like ALL Taylorcrafts and DO find the L2s interesting having owned two a few years ago (Both L2 "B" models). Along with one 1940 BL One 1940 BC One 1941 BC12 and the prize 1946 BC12 D featured on the cover of EAA's "Vintage Aircraft " in May 2001" sweet times indeed

                      Dale,

Thanks for sharing the photo. I remember, that was 2011. It is even nicer now, all new instrument panel and interior. The inside now matches the outside.

                      Jim,

Agreed, whatever the market will bear. I am not sure this plane may need that much. Would be nice if it was closer to home to look at. Almost looks like you could bolt everything on and go. If that was the case, it is worth it.

It is slower than a BC-12, but still way faster than a Cub or L-4. It is also way more fun than a side-by-side. My friends's M-model with spoilers is a hoot. And if anyone is flying a Taylorcraft to get somewhere quick, well.....I have news for them.
                      Cheers,
                      Marty

What do you mean? Taylorcrafts ARE fast! They are faster than ALL of the planes that are slower than they are!

That L-2 is a sister to my first restoration. It is an L-2M. (I did that one 30 + years ago)Dick

Pretty sure it is an "M" with open cowl. One dead giveaway is the jury strut. Only the "M" had the rear spar attach. Also it does not have sight gauge wire frames, also only "M". In one pic on the link provided it looks like you can barely make out the mount for the spoiler bellcrank on the upper cross tube and the green house which looks to be removeable are all "M" traits.
