How in the world do I remove the mag switch? My A&P mechanic has no idea...weird huh? It looks original, red lever, Off, left, right, both. It is probably simple. thanks in advance.

I should be more specific, I want to remove the lever only to repaint. Thanks!

The switch has to taken apart to remove the handle.

Depends on which Mag switch you have. There were several different ones over the years. You might find out it is easier to make a couple of masks with a slot for the shaft and put them on from both sides (overlapped) and paint it in place. A good sable brush and some model paint would probably do a nice paint job. If it is thinned right it should level out nicely.

          Scott,

I agree with Hank. I have one right now apart to repaint and it looks like you would have to remove a couple of small rivets to perhaps get the handle apart. The ones I did I just masked and painted with the handle still on. It is very easy to do and results in a very professional appearance if you take your time to prepare it. If you abrasive blast it make sure you clean everything out well. Mask whichever part you don't want to paint first and go from there. I was successful in filling in the lettering and then wiping off the excess. Use a towel or paper towel tightly drawn over your finger so the nap does not remove the paint from the lettering. Keep some naptha, (lighter fluid), around as a solvent to remove any messes, but be careful it won't affect your original paint. You can also use water based paint for the lettering which makes it much easier if you make a mistake.
          Cheers,
          Marty

Great advise. I sure appreciate the information. It did look like it might be difficult to remove. Thanks!!!
