          Jim,
My Dad (Harold Kay Powell) bought it new and picked it up @ the factory in Alliance when he was an instructor with the war training program. This is a picture of it in 1941. There is a better picture @ my parents and next time I go to visit I can make copys and mail them to you if you like. Mine is also a 41 Deluxe and I may be able to help some with finding information and parts. My Dad has some interesting stories about some of the things he did in that plane-I would love to see it restored back to original.--FYI-the original colors were maroon and light tan or cream.

I see strut cuffs on this deluxe. I wonder if they helped cruise at all? Larry

PS: don't mean to high jack this thread but I have not seen too many pics of Deluxe this nice.

                Ryan,
I'll call my Dad and see if he can scan the other pic of that plane and send it to me. I will see what other old photos I can find that may be interesting--Would you be interested in photos of Wacos they used for training?
If it's OK I can post them and Larry and anyone who may be interested can have them. I don't know if the strut cuffs help with the cruise speed but I put them on mine when I restored it because I liked the way they look. I saw on another thread that Hank and some are getting pattens to make some and will probably already have them by the time I take mine off again but next time I take mine off I will make cardboard patterns so I can make pattern copys and send to anyone who wants them.

Sure WACO photos are great as well. More Ohio history! Posting them is fine. Thanks.

Well-actually the war training program my Dad was with was in Little Rock Arkansas. They did use several Taylorcrafts for primary but I don't have any pictures of them--wish I did. Next time I go to visit my parents I'll see what I can find and make copys and you can use whichever you like. Sorry about hi-jacking the thread-may be Robert can move to the reunion photos thread?

Re: Wanted to buy - B series landing gear legs L&R

N74DV, After conferring with my IA/A&P when down at the airport where I have the Fuselage ...will be moving it tomorrow (wings are in my hanger at different airport) to snap you some pics Decided to keep the Cleveland's on this plane after-all. This plane will be a clip-wing anyway and after some prodding from my IA/A&P I decided with the stroker engine putting out 98 plus hp(run up) it would be the wiser move.

Buhl I heard what you said about liking to see it original (Believe me I would also) If you saw it now though you would realize its actually better to move it on . It has had a very hard life. Trust me you will be pleased with it when it is finished (google my name and my Baby-Ace should be out there ...it was also a complete basket case when retrieved in 2006. Please though I would love to get some copies of the original pictures as I am re-constructing as much as possible in an album...for the show circuit. PM me for address. I will be glad to reimburse you for the cost. Tell you what though its funny I actually thought about the Maroon and cream scheme already..you just helped me decide for sure. (Course it will have a star burst on the wings and checkered tail) . probably use the delux scheme elsewhere (fuselage)

The only log I have only go back to 1971. It starts with an owner in Paris Texas one Clarence P Hart. It was wrecked it looks to me a couple of times (at least) the last time someone used all stamped ribs in the right win and kept the truss ribs in the left ...which are still in remarkably nice shape.. I am going to all stamped ribs for the clip. Please stay in touch !!

                        Buell,
My 41 Deluxe is NC-43196 and it was also originally Taylorcraft Ivory over Maroon, just like that one! I found tiny bits of original paint in the corners and crevices and Jim and Dondi mixed my dope to match for the repaint. I have the original panel back as well as the 4 piece windshield.
I would be interested in ANY pictures or your dads plane! I go over every original photo I can find with a magnifying glass to gather little details. Mine was actually used during the war by the CAP to look for U-Boats so if you have any pictures with the CAP markings you would make my day!

                          Hank,
That must have been a popular color--Mine had been stripped but there were some little pieces of original paint under the grills and the Stits Diana Cream and Boston Maroon was as close as I could find. I think there is just one more picture of my Dad's but the next time I go to visit I will look to see what else I can find-but I think that may be all the Taylorcraft pics. I's going to be fun keeping up with you and Larry restoring those 41 Deluxes!
                          Jim,
I'll keep in touch--It will be nice to see that plane being rebuilt and please send pics of her progress--I'll forward to my Dad.

OK ,It is great inspiration. Today I just commissioned a very good gas welder to remove the spliced tubing members. It had two splices that showed (probably where had been on her back ) They will be replaced with original sized tubing and get rid of the scabs!!! (With the sky light a lot will show.) It will get a Mono-coupe type paint scheme. To defer to its roots, now with your input, it will be maroon with Diana cream scallops on the wings, empennage and checkered tail. The seat will be cream leather. Panel will be Diana Cream. Exposed tubing/metal in the cockpit will be maroon Currently the wings are in my direct build. Spars are already cut . Now that I have the facts I need I am moving forward on those. By he way the wings will be 12 feet long. All fittings on the old wings are being removed currently . They will be ready to re-fit in March according to the schedule I have on a project planner.

The engine is underway already. Its a C-85 being pumped up ala a stroker mod (along with a few other tricks) . I really like the 41s. Would have liked to keep the Shin brakes on her, BUT really she will be better served with the C-140/cleveland set up. Will keep you posted.

Jim, we have a C-90 clip wing here and the shin brakes do just fine. Tom
