Re: Tailwheel Tie-Down for hand Propping

That is a neat system to remove the LAST tie after you are in the cockpit but I didn't trust the design to be the ONLY tie down while I was propping. I was worried if the engine started faster than an idle the vibration could shake the pin out.
I REALLY like a solid tie to the passenger lift handle IN ADDITION TO the pull in tie to the pilot side handle. You aren't relying on the pull in rope alone until the engine is running and smooth and by that time you won't be going in front of the plane again.

Ron, That's it, thanks for posting it.

Hank, in thinking about aircraft security and redundancy of critical systems I have to agree with you. A good solid tiedown for engine start, followed by the rope/pin system to release the more secure tiedown and get back into the cockpit, with the airplane still tied down by the secondary (rope and pin) system, makes sense.

I haven't tried the system yet, but should probably do so in my Citabria. Electric starter and good brakes would make a great test bed for it. Thanks for the inspiration.

I was able to do a right click and then a 'save image as" and get a good copy in jpg format

Well I be a monkey's behind. Last night I tried that at least 4 times with no luck. Today it worked just fine. However it was way after bed time so maybe, just maybe I was not thinking on all cylinders. Thanks Mark.

On hand proping safety without using a remote release--moved to general discussion area.
