Have you guys noticed the 1941 BC-12d for sale on EBay?
According to the sale information, the owner hit a car next to the hanger, and states that there isn't much damage but looking at the pictures it sure looks like the fuselage took a good bending in cabin area, not to mention the prop strike

    Re: Taylorcraft for sale

The plane belongs to Jim Jung. Too bad it is all the way out in California.
Even though he says the damage is light the pictures show some significant structural damage to the forward fuselage.
That is NOT to say it is a major problem to repair! It is much less damage than my plane had, but there is no way I would ever consider a repair to it without at least a partial fuselage recover (I would strip and recover the whole fuselage, but I like to do fabric work). Just TOO many areas for damage to be hiding. I would also plan to do a very careful inspection of the wing attach area on the spars. I don't think there is damage there, but I would check them like my life depended on it. It DOES.
At a MINIMUM you would have to tear out the entire interior, firewall forward, boot cowl and strip the fabric from the A-pillar back to about the back of the "D" window on the passenger side from the center line bottom up to the wing. No sense burning the plane up when you weld the repairs in.
This looks like a great starting point for a prize winning plane. Best part is, IT'S ALL THERE! I just wish it was on the other coast. I would be going out to look at it this weekend.

Hi Hank, what sort of project are you looking for? Major, minor rebuild, approx. Price range? any Model T-craft?

Not for me. I already have two planes in work. The guy who did the welding on my 45 is a real artist at welding and I was looking for him. Jim's plane looked perfect since it needed a really good welder to bring her back to life and should have been a good price (my buddies skills matched the planes needs perfectly).
What he would probably need is a a COMPLETE plane with welding work needed. I doubt there is much you could do to a T where it was still recognizable that he couldn't bring back.

          Re: Taylorcraft for sale

Hi Hank, mine is available, 46 BC12 D metal prop, A65 rblt to 75 hp, 400 hrs on engine, no electrics, new seats, fuselage covered with Ceconite in the 80's, but paint is peeling.
I have some spare parts, it has original sealed struts no holes drilled in them, seem solid, no rust through.
I've had it in indoor storage for 10 years, fuel and oil was drained, engine oiled up to keep it decent.
I just can't seem to find time to finish.
Probably needs no welding, but could use some TLC and maybe a fuselage recover.
Main Wings look great, they were recovered in 1990 or so.
If he or anyone else is interested I can email pics and log info.

Price would be very reasonable, less than $8K USD pickup here in western NY. Bring trailer and cash.

If you can send me pictures I will sure forward them to him. I'm at hjarrett 2 at cox dot net. The private messages on the group probably won't have enough room for many pictures.
            Thanks

Saw them in the in box this morning and will call Dennis today to forward them to him.
Hope he likes what he sees and wants to take it on. One of us will call and let you know.

Original struts were not sealed. Tom

                    Re: Taylorcraft for sale

Hi Tom, thank you for the info, by original I meant I didn't replace them...the plane came that way, though I see nothing in the logs about them being replaced...not surprising.
I do have an old maybe original? blueprinto/ditto purple ink owners manual and copies of the FAA sheets from various recover jobs, appears as though the ship was delivered to California in the late 40's, and worked it's way back across the country to NY...interesting reading.

Gents, I stand corrected, Tom thank you again.
I took a closer look at the struts this evening, and you are right, on the heavier 2 of the 4 struts, there appears to be one small hole at the bottom of each, don't remember ever noticing them before.
Plane has been in storage here for 10 years, she needs to be flying again, hope someone can make that happen. I've attached some pics I just took.

Your N43204 ship is either a January or February (early February?) 1946 model - both by number and the doors. The panel shape looks very early 1946. Do you have welded stringers above the cabin instead of T-stringers? Doc

Those struts have holes at top too! they are NOT "sealed" struts. IF they are original.

Hi Doc, don't know, has a white vinyl headliner in it, any way to easily see without removing it?
Forrest, I will check the tops of the struts for holes too, thanks.

Is that a Luscombe exhaust on that A65? I'd like a copy of the 337, if possible.
