  • Attention '41 DeLuxe owners

    Tribe,
There is what appears to be a set of cast cowl grills on Ebay. Also this same fellow has some chrome pieces that may be part of the instrument panel or the pieces that go down the side of the cowl. Good luck and happy bidding.

The "chrome pieces" are the strips that go on the cowl sides of the front cowl. There are two more (four total) needed for each side for the boot and door. I have been looking for several years for a set. I have one full side worth (five pieces) that were loaned to me to see if I could find what car they came from. I'm pretty sure Taylor didn't have them made just for the limited number of Taylorcrafts that got them.
Anybody know who is selling them?

OK, the grills are also for a 41 Deluxe and look like they are in very good condition (all the mount lugs are intact, and they are usually broken). I have a good set of those plus a spare set in rough cast condition and a cut set. The square cover for under the prop is REALLY hard to find. I also have a set of the "D" shape grills that have had the curved part sawed off (not by me) because someone had removed the strips down the sides and they look pretty silly with the original grills and no strips.
Before anyone bids on the grills (or the strips) you should know you have to have a 41 bowl to use them. The grills WILL NOT fit on the bowl that had the stamped grills, and the strips look even sillier without the grills than the grills do without the strips.

One more time here. I am NOT trying to get people to not bid on the items! I would just not like to think someone bought them, then found out they couldn't use them, and they ended up in a box at the back of a hangar. Whoever is selling them deserves the best price they can fairly get.

The cast pieces will fit any nose bowl. I used the best I had when I did my DeLuxe. You would have to measure the long piece in the auction as it could be the boot cowl piece. Very nice find, the short pieces for the cowling are the hardest to find.

You must have all pre-war bowls because I have about half a dozen post wars and two pre-wars I have tapped out for people, and the post war ones are a different size and shape. Try laying a post war stamped grill over a pre-war cast one and you will be able to see they are completely different. I hope I can get to the hangar today and I will try to take some pictures. I have had folks want me to modify a post war one to accept a cast grill and have never been able to do it.

Wow, the Compass sold for over $700! I was planning to bid again for the side strips, (I have two compasses) but they are up to over $270. That is a bit too rich for my blood right now, so I guess I'm out. The ones painted on my fuselage sides don't look THAT bad (I say lying to myself). I think the seller should be able to get the best possible price and hope whoever gets the parts let's all of us know.
I will be sending my two bubble face compasses to Keystone for yellow tags soon, along with the rest of the instruments for the 45 and 41. I don't know if they are in to "bulk rates", but if anyone is interested in joining up, I will be putting a $1,000 insurance on my compasses. I can't afford to replace them!

Still love to know who the seller is too. Must be a 41 T person, and if he isn't one of us he may have a wreck with lots of bits and pieces he doesn't know we would like to buy!

$510 for the side trims! I WILL be breaking out the metal forming tools. Congratulations to the winner AND the seller. I would have NEVER thought they would be worth that much. It looks like there were 5 people bidding and a LOT of competition. I would invite all to contact me to see if we can make the rest of the parts needed. I have one complete side worth for masters and it looks like there might be enough interest to make manufacture worth while. I DO NOT want to make a profit. If I know how many sets are needed I will find out what the cost would be and we can split it evenly. There will be some work needed by the individuals so we can make them "owner produced".
Give me a yell and I will see what it takes to make them.
